Not many people are.  After all, he was one of the best to every play that position in the game. ;)

After reading reports Im confused. We got two mid rounders for Monroe. We got a pick for Mike thomas, and got a pick recently for D'Anthony Smith. That would make 11 picks, but everyone is saying we have 10 picks. Am I missing something?

The D'Anthony Smith pick was conditional. He wasn't on Seattle's roster long enough to meet the terms.

We lost the pick for Anthony, Seattle waived him before the deadline. I believe DC is doing it the right way, just gotta hit on those picks

Word has it that the Jags are gonna trade Eugene Monroe to the Ravens for multiple third-day draft picks (rounds 4-7). We were gonna get rid of him after this year anyway, so I'm cool with putting Joekel in his natural position; Not sure who we're gonna get for RT. Ideally, I wish that we could have atleast got one third round draft pick in that deal.

2009 Draft class is now gone. How many years did we waste with poor drafts? So disappointing.

Still not sure about this Monroe trade. I have to assume that Caldwell and company knew back in April that he would not be in the long term plans. Maybe they tried to move him then and couldn't get a deal done. It just seems like he was worth more.

If you look at the 2 deep roster, this team still has lots of holes.   The Gene Smith years keep on giving.

The best way they are going to repair the franchise is with draft picks.  Look at what Seattle has done with late round picks.  (Richard Sherman, Wilson, Chancellor etc.)    Good FA acquisitions will help, but they can only augment a solid draft strategy.

It's going to take at least 2-3 years before this team is ready to make a push for the playoffs.

The Ravens are getting the contract, not just the player.  he only has 12 games remaining on his contract so Caldwell did a good job getting what he could for him.

This trade will be judged on two factors:

  • What do the Jags get out of the two picks they received for Monroe
  • Joeckel's performance.  He better be pretty damned good because we just traded away a top half of the league LT who was young.  Of course, we needed to resign him but that could have been done.

I don't disagree with that. I guess I am  not surprised what they got for him considering he is not in their long terms plans. I am just surprised he is not in their long term plans. The team is so bad and they traded away one of the few servicable players at a premium position. And this isn't like MJD, Lewis or Babin where they are declining players. Monroe is in his prime. And we are right back to where we were before we took Joeckel.

I just hope Bridgewater is worth it.

Looks like a good move to me. I really didn't think we'd resign Monroe and letting him walk in free agency gets us nothing.

The reality is though... we now need 4 offensive lineman :/
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

The spring of eternal hope...

The Ravens don't offer Monroe an extension and allow him to become a FA.

With all of our cap space, we would have no problems signing a young FA that knows our system and has proven to be a solid player.

Now we give him the money that we were going to AND pick up 2-3 mid/late round picks.

Maybe that's why they weren't pushing for anything higher like a 2nd or 3rd round pick?  The plan is to grab him at the end of the year, regardless.
