Preaseason football must mean so much to you, I guess you can write the future based on a few games. Ask the Royals fans how they thought about their chances to make the world series after they had the best record in spring training this year. How's that working out for them? Preseason means nothing.

And yet, it furnishes conclusive proof that Cecil Shorts, age 24, who has played a grand total of one series this preseason, is no longer a worthwhile player and is "ancient effing history."

QuoteA 24-year-old guy who caught 55 passes for nearly 1000 yards last season is "Ancient Effing History" because he's only played one series this preseason due to a calf injury?

I am so proud of what he did last season, I will only mention the fact he caught 1 pass for 20 yards in that historic epic struggle from last night. Get your head out of each other's arse and deal with facts and numbers, THIS year. Nobody gives a damn what happened last year, you must be related to Mularkey if you do. His name is dirt to us, move on with new material.

By the way, 979 yards and we went 2-14. So what does that mean? Perhaps the leading receiver at 979 yards is a place where we expect more production? Blackmon is the money on the field, we know it, he knows it, the opposing teams know it. He has had a great preseason on the field. Maybe he is spending too much time with you and the Neck drinking to know he has more to offer on the field!

QuoteI'm sorry, sir, are you too fucking obtuse to realize that we didn't play our #1WR but for only a few plays so he didn't re-injure his leg in a meaningless game?

The only one obtuse is obviously yourself, the impact Blackmon has on the field is obvious, he has more people covering him to allow more options for the offense. I can draw you a picture sometime of how it all works. He still had 4 receptions and that 979 yard receiver only 1, was a nice one, but still only 1.

But hey, its preseason and I know it means the world to you, so I am sure it was a nice 20 yard reception.

This argument doesn't even make any sense.  You follow "preseason means nothing" in one post with an exegesis on how Blackmon's stats vs. Shorts' stats in preseason conclusively prove their respective worth, while comparing the stats of a guy who's being rested as a precaution (because the team is well aware of what he can do) to a guy who's playing full halves of each game.

Shorts didn't start the first five games of last year and missed two with concussions, and despite playing with two quarterbacks whose performance ranged between mediocre and miserable - mostly on the lower end of that spectrum - he put up good numbers and was the Jaguars' first legitimate big play threat at the position in a long time.  He's also 24 and well regarded around the NFL.  But that means nothing.  Preseason stats mean everything.  Except that preseason doesn't matter and it's a joke to glean any predictive value from it.

None of this is intended as an indictment of Blackmon, just of the idea that Blackmon is the only receiver on the roster with any worth.

That's completely incoherent, but then again, I'm speaking with someone who thinks trolling and random insults are equivalent to manhood.  I'm leaving the gutter now.

When did I or anyone else here discredit or take anything away from Blackmon?  I agree that he impacts the game when on the field, but he's far from the only one.

Did you watch Ace Sanders play in college?  He's not as large as Blackmon, but he's much faster and may have even better hands.  CSIII is a solid receiver, but you won't acknowledge it.

And as good as Blackmon might be, he's not Calvin Johnson.  CJ is the only WR since, Irvin?, who has made such an individual impact on the field.  Not Fitzgerald, not Andre Johnson, not Julio Jones....  Blackmon needs the supporting cast around him, just as those other players do.  And we seem to be a helluva lot closer to that this year, with limited samples than we were last year in the middle of the season.

Pre-season football is about seeing a few series of your A-players going live against an opponent with no one getting hurt.  I don't care that final score says we lost.  When it mattered, we were in the lead, just as we were last week against Buttfumble and the Green Turds.

The Dolphins game was atrocious all around, but it was also the first game of the season, so somewhat expected.   And next week will be a series or two MAYBE for the starters, so we can lose 52-0 and I won't care.

Ask me how I feel we're doing around week 4-5, and I'll give you more reasoned response, but for now, I think we're playing better than expected.

I dont even waste my breath and respond to his posts anymore. We all know Shorts has beyond proven his self. Blackmon has not done half of what Shorts has done. Shorts still remains our ONLY deep threat on the team. Blackmon is going to be awesome, but hes not there yet. Almost half of his 878 yards last season came from one game.

Im glad they cut Polk. He was God awful terrible last night. I never paid any attention to Cain so I cant comment on that one.

The one thing I hope is that Gabbert or whoever gets BOTH Blackmon and Shorts involved in the passing game. One problem with Henne is that he focuses on one target, which is usually Blackmon. That is easy for defense to read and eventually shut down. When you have receivers like Blackmon and Shorts, you have to get them both involved to keep defense guessing.  As they called him last year, Shorts is always " a big play waiting to happen." I noticed that last year once henne took over, Shorts barely got the ball and he always targeted Blackmon on every down which I found very retarded. Gabbert seems to target them both equally. The actually had a good read up about on Big Cat Country. Its on a play where Henne was so locked in to Shorts, he didn't even noticed the tight end was wide open. He doesn't do go through progressions well, or at all even.

Sims Walker has finally hung it up, and went to the CFL

Sims-Walker heads north of the border

Receiver Mike Sims-Walker, who once appeared to be an up-and-coming star, has had a rough few years in the NFL.

Unable to land a spot on the Jets' 90-man roster after participating in a minicamp on a tryout basis and with no one else interested, Sims-Walker has opted to continue his career in Canada.

He has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.

"Mike is a very experienced receiver who we feel possesses great skill that could allow him to excel on our wide-open fields in Canada," Blue Bombers acting General Manager Kyle Walters.  "We're looking forward to getting him acclimated to the CFL game."

In 2009, his second in the league, Sims-Walker racked up 869 receiving yards for the Jaguars.  In thee seasons after that, he gained a grand total of 711 yards.

QuoteWe all know Shorts has beyond proven his self.

Proven his self? How, by leading the team to a 2-14 season? He's a nice receiver, but he needed help. Blackmon, in his first year had almost the same number of yards, Blackmon is the money. He is the next Jimmy Smith. Oh, yeah, and Jimmy Smith is the greatest WR the Jaguars have ever had, even though he had drug problems off the field. But he had Keenan Mccardell to help carry the load. You need a good 2-receiver set to spread the field. Smith and Mccardell helped the Jags get to the playoffs, back when they went 14-2 in a season, for those of you Millenials who weren't even born then.

DD - What is your take on the heart of this 0-3 preseason team, no Jaguar team has ever gone 0-4 in preseason. None. Does this team lack the heart to get the job done on the field? They sure don't play like they have what it takes to be champions.

DD - Henne is a backup QB. The Jax Media has acknowledged that Gabbert has better mechanics and arm strength as an NFL QB. He is the starter, so he has the tools and the ability to see the field, he had some nice drives last year throwing the ball. Consistency and injury are now his issues. Henne is a nice backup, he will always be a backup. Then add the +3 QB into the mix, there must be some good reason to have 5, count them, 5 QBs in preseason camp. (Gabbert, Henne, Scott,  Stanzi, and Kafka).

Not to speak out of turn, but you do realize what preseason is for right? Should we fault the team because the coaches are trying to gauge the ability of the players on the current roster so they can know what to expect in regular season when it does count?  I have yet to see any preseason score bragging from any team once the season starts. During preseason you don't focus on the win, not even the score, you focus on the plays, the mechanics of the game, the interaction of the teammates. If you knew nothing else about football, last preseason should've taught you that those games hold no bearing on the regular season.
