New Skyline for Jacksonville

Hey y'all,

I have been busy with something that I think might interest a lot of folks here on this website.
I've been working on a business plan to create a new wall climbing company here in Jacksonville. For the location I am thinking about the Shipyards area and creating the letters J A X as walls in order they can bee seen from the river and would add to the Jax skyline and become an instant marketing stunt as well (create the largest outdoor climbing wall in the world) I have been working with the parties involved in the biggest outdoor climbing the world: see link. I am still working on the finance/investment part. Let me know if you have any ideas.

That sounds like a great idea for many reasons. Hope to hear more!

Very nice. Why not do a test run with the skeleton of the Berkman Two? Include a zip line to the Jim Love, Kevin Kuzel, 26'Berkman floating dock compromise that was misrepresented by OGC to the Jacksonville Waterways Commission during the 2013 FIND grant application process.

There is a Downtown Experience subcommittee meeting of our new DIA Aug. 2 1st floor city hall at 4pm I believe and this is where you need to pitch this idea. especially if you want to use the Shipyards III location. Tony Allegretti is a DIA Board member and the chair of this subcommittee and has the most power when picking the winners and losers in how projects and economic opportunity will move forward.

Good luck. I haven't given up yet. Maybe I'll see you there.

Sounds cool as hell!

What other locations have you considered?

Wow this is a cool idea. more activities for downtown!

Cool idea. I think you'll have a hard time getting a decent price on land at or near the shipyards exclusively for that, but its something that a future developer might be interested in allowing you to do for free/cheaply.

One idea would be to have it in the river near the bank (with a small walkway for climbing). Berlin has a massive 100 foot sculpture in its river that looks very cool.

Awsome idea! Good luck with it. I'd love to get into rock climbing this would be a great start for lots of people.

Maybe to save on costs, you can get other people with complementing ideas to share the land and the costs, such as a place to eat, maybe a shop to sell climbing equipment, (for the pros that want to buy their own gear) perhaps a smaller wall for the kids and those afraid of heights. The possibilities are endless!

Conceptually, I think the Berkman II could be a daring, multi-recreational facility (it probably isn't something for Jacksonville though).

Never been, but here's a link to the OKC Rocktown Climbing Gym.

Seems like I see Ock reference OKC a bit...maybe he'll have something to chip in.
