QuoteSeven months after opening Maple Street Biscuit Company in San Marco, owners Gus Evans and Scott Moore are planning to take their concept to Jacksonville Beach.

With a lease signed and keys in hand Thursday, the pair plan to start remodeling work soon on the new restaurant, located at 410 Third St. N., the former short-lived home to Fionn MacCool’s Irish Restaurant & Pub and Dick’s Wings. Their goal is to have the restaurant ready to open in August.

“We’re excited to expand the brand,” Evans said Thursday afternoon. “We thought Jacksonville Beach was another community that could sustain (our concept).”

At nearly 4,000 square feet, the restaurant is larger than Maple Street’s San Marco location, but Evans said they plan to keep the same rustic, industrial look of San Marco as much as possible. That means relocating the kitchen from the rear of the restaurant likely to the existing bar area, which, too, will be moved.

The building itself has lots of character, he said.

With a dedicated following of customers from the Beaches already, the Third Street spot was a logical option, Evans said.

But it wasn’t the only one.

“We were toying with Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine,” he said.

With its “Southern comfort food with a modern twist” concept, Maple Street Biscuit Company offers a menu largely based on homemade biscuits and fried chicken, topped with ingredients like pecan bacon, fried goat cheese medallion, collard greens, fried egg, house made pepper jelly and others. Sausage, country ham and veggie biscuit options, too, are available.

As of now, Evans and Moore plan to keep the same operating hours as those in San Marco: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday plus evening hours on Friday and Saturday.

Maple Street isn’t the first San Marco breakfast spot to add a Jacksonville Beach location in recent years. In February 2012, San Marco dining institution Metro Diner opened its third location, at 1534 Third St. N.

The two San Marco restaurants share another distinction as well. In May, they were named two America’s most popular breakfast spots by Urbanspoon, the popular smartphone app used to discover new restaurants and make reservations.

I have a hunch this won't be their last expansion. Really think the sky is the limit for this place and I don't just mean locally. So freakin good.

Good to know that I can crash at the beach on the weekends and not have to worry about where I'm going to get my biscuit fix.
