Is the bed tax fund only to be spent on Stadium improvements or capital improvements to City property generally?

While I understand the emphasis on the scoreboards, could the fund be utilized to improve the area around the stadium (i.e. more green space or amenities) to alleviate the concrete and asphalt desert? It would be nice to see a plan to connect the stadium area proper to metropark, etc.

The fund is for general capitol improvements in general. And to answer you question, when it comes to the stadium, the stadium itself is more imprtant than green space around it. The NFL wont look at your stadium and say " The scoreboards are not functional and its falling apart, but hey check out that green space. You guys dont need a new stadium." LOL to your point, that is why Khan is interested in developing the Shipyard's property..to connect downtown and the stadium district.

I doubt the Super Bowl will ever come back. The upgrades will definitey help the city in bidding to host the new college football title game. I would not be surprised to see it here in the next 5 or 6 years. It should also help bring a big neutral site college football game like we see in Atlanta and Dallas. Something similar to the games FSU has played against Alabama, BYU and Colorado in our stadium. It should also help land soccer games like we've had with the men's and women's national teams.

Yeah the SB is a no go. And its for the same reason they would never have one in Green Bay.. logistics. Goodell actually mention this in a fan forum last year when he was aksed about the SB coming back to Jax. Its the logistics. Jacksonville is not designed to host an event of that magnitude. Fans like for everything to be extremely close, convienant and walkable. Jax is none of the above. Not to mention the hotel room issue. We have more hotel rooms than we did back then is 2004, but we still dont have enough.

However, I have wondered about the Pro Bowl. If they indeed start to rotate sites as its being proposed,  I think we could host it. Its nowhere the magnntude of the Super Bowl. I wonder what the logistics are behind hosting it? (hotel room requirement, etc)

I don't see how anyone could say that the Super Bowl is never coming back. Hypothetically we get DT squared away with the shipyards, added hotels, an extended Skyway, etc. BTW the SB is never coming back...By saying the SB will never come back, you might as well expect for DT  to 'never' flourish. SMH

That's the key getting DT squared away??

Let's just say it will take more than a decade of time to hypothetically get DT squared away.

^and that`s with everyone on board, and working in there same direction.

^^^I'm cool with that yall. I certainly didn't  say that getting DT up to par will happen overnight, but with this 'never' attitude, why should we even want to have an improved downtown? We should all just give up all hope, and mimic everything that the pessimistic national media says if that's the case.

It will be decades before the SB ever comes back. Part of it might be downtown but also an overall lack of hotel rooms. By the time the city may be ready to support the game again, we will have needed a new stadium.

Yeah that was pretty much my point. If/when the city is prepared to vie for the Super Bowl, it will be the stadium that is holding us back and needs to be upgraded again.

Another thing that drives me crazy is if Jacksonville was to hypothetically lose the Jaguars,"Jacksonville will NEVER (there go that word again)  get a NFL franchise again through relocation.

So that 'crown jewel' in the middle of a freaking flyover state, the megalopolis Indianapolis is the exception to the rule huh? (overrate Indy if you wanna) Okay, I know that Indy never had a team before the Colts moved there; What about the 'big city' St Louis which is in jeopardy of losing their team (for the second time) in 2014 when their stadium deal runs out? I suppose that it's impossible for the STL to get a third team... Bottomline, unless you are freaking Marty McFly with the time machine set for year 2100, you and I don't know sh*t concerning the future, whether it's Jax getting a second SB or whatever that's unannounced.

I feel better now (like Ron said on the other post) sorry for the lil' rant.

I-10 please give it a rest, its really not that serious as you make it out to be.

Jaguars mull constant RedZone coverage at stadium
by Dan Hanzus

There was once a time when attending an NFL game meant unplugging from the manic-obsessive tracking of your fantasy football team. The Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to change that.

The Sports Business Journal (via ProFootballTalk.com) spoke with Jaguars president Mark Lamping, who said a section of the teams's two new 16,626-foot video board screens at EverBank Field could be devoted to the NFL RedZone channel.

For the uninitiated, NFL RedZone provides fans with constant real-time updates of every game on Sunday. It's among the best things ever.

"We know this would be welcomed by the large portion of our fans who are transplants to Jacksonville, as well as all fantasy football enthusiasts," Lamping said.

It's a nice idea by the Jaguars, who like other NFL teams, are trying to find ways to make the stadium experience more enjoyable in the era of high-definition television. Playing to fantasy enthusiasts hits a huge demographic.

As for those video boards, Jags fans will have to be patient. Shad Khan's mustache won't be unveiled in massive HD until 2014.

For me all this other stuff is good, but its not needed for me to support the team. The up grades will be nice and hopefully they drawn in other events as planned.
