Sure, if you take people to the "pretty places" it all seems fine. But don't let people think you can ride your bike around willy nilly in Springfield. Springfield also boasts some of the highest murder rates and crime rates in the city. I lived in the area briefly and had my gas siphoned out of my car several times. I know people have been shot, their dogs have been shot or stolen, houses get robbed frequently, all in the Springfield neighborhood. It's not a safe neighborhood yet, so don't make it out to be. It is very unfortunate though, because the houses are amazing and beautiful and have so much potential to make the neighborhood a swanky area.

^^really??? what are you talking about? i have lived there since 2005 and have not had anything like that happen to me or my neighbors. Shootings do occur occasionally, but mostly drug related. It isn't all roses, but it is not nearly as bad as you are portraying it to be. Frankly the only place my car has ever been broken into was out off Beach Blvd at the gym, not in front of my house in Springfield.

I believe there were all of 3 murders in Springfield last year. Springfield isn't anywhere near "highest murder rates and crime rates in the city" considering the neighborhoods north and west of it.

a) i don't know what springfield you were in, but i've lived here my whole life, and you're plainly talkin out ov your ass.

This is idiotic.

During the last SPAR community meeting several months ago, which about 60 residents participated in, community goals, wants, needs, etc were discussed and prioritized.

What was a priority?

Trash cans on Main Street. More small businesses. Park enhancenents. Infrastructure improvements.

What wasn't even mentioned in the 100+ discussion items?

Anything crime related.

Great article and photos! It was a very nice tour, and thank you for following up with this. For those who could not make it, I do recommend the bicycle tour as part of visiting the houses. It makes for a very pleasant afternoon.

BTW, I ride my bicycle "willy nilly" around Springfield all the time, without fear. This is an urban neighborhood with its own mix of people and places, and that is what makes it unique and worthwhile.

If I wanted suburbia, I would still live in Mandarin. But I don't....and I don't.
