With the new NFL league year beginning in about an hour, free agency gets underway.

I hope they can keep Daryl Smith.

Any thoughts on who they should sign to make this team better?

Leon Washington being released by the Seahawks. He was on 1010xl last month and raved about Bradley. Bring him home!!!

Not resigning Darryl Smith would cause a huge hole. Along with the secondary that would be a big blow to the defense. So far Ive read they are interested in this DT/DE from the Raiders that is like 6'6" 300 lbs. From what I read his big and versitle and that is what they want.

Just read Pot Roast may be signing with the Broncos. To be honest, I want to be rid of all of them and just start over. Try to bring back Meester, Jones and Smith on a short term deal, and let the rest of them walk including Cox. This free agency stuff is a crock anyways. You roll the dice and pay risky players big bucks and it may or may not work out. For example, If I were Cox I was stay in Jax. Why go somewhere else and sign a huge deal, just to be cut two years from now because you cant stay healthy? Not wishing any ill will on him, and I hope he does stay healthy but Im sure you see my point.

Then you have teams like the Browns who had paid huge money for like three players in past three days, Miami going broke signing Mike Wallace, etc. I just dont get it. I appreciate Caldwell's approach. Stay the hell away from making the big "splash". Get some decent, low cost veterans that fit you scheme in the short term and keep it moving.

There will be plenty of inexpensive free agents after the draft to fill holes.  Undrafted free agents can provide depth and the occasional starter.  The price for guys who are free agents now and have not signed with a team will drop quickly after the draft...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Laurent Robinson cut too. Sounds like he might be done due to concussions.

There are a crap load of corner back and safties in free agency, and more are getting released everyday. There are actually some REALLY good ones out there.

Jaguars sign Geno Hayes

The Jaguars signed Bears free agent linebacker Geno Hayes to a one-year deal on Wednesday, the team said.

The team also confirmed the release of wide receiver Laurent Robinson, a move reported earlier in the day.

The 25-year-old Hayes will work again with Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley. When Hayes broke into the NFL in 2008 with Tampa Bay, Bradley was the Buccaneers’ linebackers coach.

Hayes (6-1, 226) started three games at strong-side linebacker late in the 2012 campaign for Chicago. Overall, he recorded 16 defensive tackles and five special-teams stops in 15 games with the Bears.

In five NFL seasons, Hayes has racked up 273 tackles on defense along with 17 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and four interceptions. He played with the Bucs from 2008 through 2011 before the one-season stint in Chicago

I like the move. he's young and only on a one year deal. So he has to prove his self and compete to get a new contract and stay on the team. We need more signing like this. Make them earn it.

The report was later corrected.  It's a 2-year deal.

Added speed with upside at LB.  Can't complain.

Oh okay cool I dont care about the signing not being exciting. Im one fan who is tired of overpaying for decent players. Im excitied to bring in young guys. Hopefully we can stuble across some more Cecil Shorts. I am still amazed how he broke loose. I want us to create our own stars, and not over pay to get other peoples leftovers.

Admittedly I'm an FSU guy, but I thought they should've drafted speedy and rangy Big Play Hayes years ago... however, Gene Smith's penchant for avoiding guys that had a history of arrests no doubt played a role in that.
