The Jaguars have informed Rashean Mathis he won't be back.

Say what one will about his performance in recent years (2011 excepted), but he's the best CB in Jaguars history, a Jax native, a nice man, a good citizen, and the namesake of my fish.  I will miss him.

Being that he's from here, he will always have a spot with the Jags. Before I was offically a Jags fan, I knew who Rashean Mathis was.  And I agree, he was a best CB weve had, its just sad people never give him his props. The guy was a beast, but just like most players in the NFL, age and injury cause decline in play. Its just the life cycle of the NFL. I know he's probably not dealing with it to well. I mean he was born and raised here, and played for his home town team for  a decade. Hes probably thinking, " Now what?" I see him doing one of two things; signing a minimual contract with another team for a about two years, then retire a Jag, or just retire a Jag and call it quits. I dont think I could see him play for anyone else without feeling uncomfortable  ;D

I hope he makes it into the Pride someday.  From 2005-07 he was one of the very best in the league.

And for the kind of guy he is, he deserves all the hype that certain other athletes with local ties got instead.

Well Landry has gotten the boot. Looks like were going be stocking up on defense this off season. With Mathis and Landry gone, Cox possiably not returning or Pot Roast and no word on DAryl Smith, we are going to have holes everywhere. Shockingly, I believe our offense doesnt need as much work as we think. If we get two good plugs on the O-line, I think we are set. HOWEVER, the QB position is still a concern though. Hopefully we do draft one to compete for the job. But Im thinking this drafts is going to all defense.

Landry is not a surprise. He is with guys like Lewis, Nwaneri, Mincey and Poz as solid players that are overpaid. I would not be surprised to see at least one of those guys (probably Mincey) gone as well. The roster will be completely remade.

Well Caldwell already said that all evaluation is about the players performance and not the money part. Since we dont have cap issues, they arent looking at that (right now). We actually lost money by cutting Landry. I think its 3.9 million of dead money. So its not about the anyone being overpaid right now, its strictly performance.

Cap issues or not, money is always a factor.

Well I guess Caldwell is liar already then. Im just going by what he said. It is what it is.

I think what he's saying is that they're willing to pay for productivity rather than being stingy on spending. But no one wants to overpay someone as that's money that could more effective elsewhere.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I think another factor is that Bradley seems to have a very specific vision for the kinds of starting safeties he wants for his defense.  Lowery still fits, though.

Landry reminded me alot of Darius. I'd say 10-15 years ago, he could have been a Pro Bowl safety. But he just was not athletic enough for the modern NFL. I agree on Lowery. Seems to be a better fit. Just like on the d-line, Babin seems to be a great fit for Bradley's system. But Mincey doesn't.
