Why is the world full of humans a lot less friendly than we ought to be?

and there will be lots of us to remember him.  I know I will be visiting some of the old places in his honor.

Ronnie Van Zant Park.  A great place to go.  Even with all the "No profanity, alcoholic beverages allowed."   Seriously?  At Ronnie Van Zant Park?  That totally goes against the image.  lol

QuoteIt was rough, particularly, where I grew up.  It was like the ghetto, black and white, and there was a lot of street fighting and a lot of adventure.  It was a rough area of town, the Shantytown. Gary and I came from that area.  My father did some boxing and drove a truck for twenty years. (1975)

All the guys in Lynyrd Skynyrd are nuthin' but street people, right straight off the streets, skid row, the whole works.  It's very easy for us to relate to that.  We can relate to that much more than anything else. (1977)

from Gary Rossington:
Quote
Everybody knew Ronnie in Jacksonville because he was Mr. Badass.  He would just stand on street corners flipping people off.  So when he auditioned to be lead singer in this group called Us, they were too scared to say no."

QuoteEd King will tell you that as close as he got and as many years as he was with them, he was still viewed as an outsider to the final day because he didn't grow up in Jacksonville, he didn't grow up on that side of town.

According to Amazon.com "Freebird" is "the most-requested song in the history of rock music."[2]

And only a gang of badasses from the Westside of Jacksonville could create it.
