Our duplex on Walnut Court:

...has been adopted by a family who will live and love in the home we (and I mean the ENTIRE community) helped save from the bulldozer.

PSOS gave away the house to a family who intends to move here and make Springfield their home.

We have more houses available....interested?  Make your case and a house could be yours.

Congratulations! A home for a family. What a gift.

Yup. We have more, too. The requirement is that the home goes to a good home, e.g. you must fix it up, not demolish it. We have a dozen or so left over from back in the days when COJ was on a roll with demolitions, and the only way to put a stop to it was to take ownership ourselves and be willing to litigate. Which we ultimately never had to do, HPC really stepped up once they had someone (us) willing to secure and stabilize these things. MCCD has still been a pain, but overall things are much better now. But we do still have multiple houses in need of loving owners, if you think you might be interested, just get ahold of Gloria, me, or any of the other PSOS people to arrange a tour.

You all are doing such fantastic things for the community of Springfield.  Without you so many lovely homes would have been lost forever.   Thank you for all your hard work and efforts!  You done good guys, real good!

...and the community of Springfield -- and Metrojacksonville -- is responsible as well!  Whenever we need ANYTHING, it is given to us by generous donors -- food for events, dollars for emergency repairs, weed whackers (thanks Mike!), paint, you name it, all we have had to do is ask.

What a blessing.

It is a blessing Gloria in more ways than one.  What you and others with you have effectively done is show Jacksonville the positive things that come from people who care taking time and personally committing to saving an important part of our city.  You have put actions to words in a very powerful way and done so quietly without much in the way of accolades.  All of you are owed a debt of appreciation in my opinion and need to be thanked more than once for providing our city with a most wonderful example of citizen action and commitment.    :-*

This is what it's been about, right from the start, when others thought we were out of our minds and league. It's the combined blood, sweat and even tears of PSOS members, the volunteers that worked alongside of us to make a difference and to show that these old houses can and should be saved...and then mothballing them, for just this kind of moment, a family gets a home, a community grows and a house was saved.
