here's the question I have from yesterday...I have no problem not upnting on 4th down in OT....but why not let Scobee take a shot...sure it would have been from 63 yards (tying an NFL record), but we know he can hit from 59?

Agree

At the end of the game in regulation, when the Jags had the ball with about a minute left, Scobee was on the sideline and you could read his lips to Mularkey.  He said to get him to the 42 for a chance.

In OT, we were on the 47.  That would have been a 65 yard field goal.  A full 5 yards longer than he thought he could make, and 2 yards longer than the NFL record.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

P.S. How fantastic was that tackle by Bryan Anger to save the touchdown?

One thing I will say.. Gene Smith has done something Shack Harris could not... He found us TWO wide receivers THANK GOD. And the amazing think about Shorts is that Gene dug him up out of no where. Even I thought it would never happen. The Jags? To receiver that can catch and go deep? Hell must be ice cold right.  ;D

Considering the stastical probability of a 65 yard field goal is 0 percent while converting 4th and 10 is in the teens... I think they made the right call.  Sometimes, you just have to make a play... Jags had SEVERAL chances to do that yesterday, and failed.  That's why these 4th quarter leads have all evaporated this year.  Players, not plays.

I'll buy that...although I noted at the time (and statictical probablility shows) getting a few yards is easier than getting ten yards...had they instead tried for about 5 yards on third down, the FG attempt would have been in from 60 or less

Not out of no where.  Despite coming from Mount Union, he was pretty well known.  He lit up the post season all-star camps.

Yes, he was widely projected to be a 4th round or so pick (as he was) and a number of scouts and analysts mentioned that he had the talent level of a higher-round pick than that.

This is why it was always absurd for some of the Gene critics to say that Shorts was ipso facto a bad pick because of the small college pedigree.  (And this happened often, including in this thread.)

Don't get me wrong; this season, for obvious reasons, has caused me to move away from my previous generally pro-Gene point of view.  But I would posit that I held a pro-Gene point of view for as long as I did because many of the initial arguments against him were based on manifestly silly reasons, e.g., that Shorts (and before that, Cox) would never succeed and/or could have been drafted later because he went to a small school.

I thought that was going to end up saving the game since the INT and the TD pass to Blackmon followed.

I'd also add that our coverage was absolutely awful on that punt, because it sure wasn't a situation of poor hang time causing the outkicking of coverage.

I agree. I dont get people complaining about that call. Had we missed the field goal, and gave the Texans superb field position, everyone would be complaing about that. But lets no kid, ourselves, we played the best team in t AFC. There was a slim chance in heck that we were gonna beat them. Our defense was out of gas by the fourth quarter. The Texans offense is very tough to defend, VERY. We dont have the caliber  of a team to compete with them, plain and simple. But the mere fact we hung in for so long and we didnt get blown out, is fine by me. Winning this game would not have made a bit of difference at this point. Just would have been a feel good moment for the fans. Thats it LOL

Yeah, he was a DIII stud on the best team at that level. And Garcon's emergence with the Colts gave Mount Union some exposure. I remember watching his team in the championship game and Shorts was all everything. He played quarterback, running back and receiver.

But from an NFL drafting prospective, he went under the rador because he was from a "small school" Thats what I meant by came out of no where.

I've never had too much of a problem with small school drafting if the GM thinks there is legitimate talent there.  You find NFL skill where you find it.  I do think it odd that the Jags have one SEC player on the roster.  That's just weird and I'm not an SEC guy.

Another odd note is the Jaguars have never drafted a player from Miami.

duvaldude08

On a side note, The Cheifs are awful and poorly coached. They have NO discipline. After I seen they ridicuous dancing after every play on MNF, I was so embarassed for the Cheifs fans. I give the Jags one things, they are well coached and disciplined (some of them just lack talent). They would never embarass us like that. Kansas city is outta control. The fans have started showing up in all black to represent their disaapointment, and a man actually died of a heart attack after being upset about the Cheifs losing. Aint that some shit! LOL

What makes you say this?  I don't see a particularly well coached team.
