Tebow...LoL you can't stand him but can't keep his name out of your mouth.

Simple question - was he a first round value?

QuotePierre-Paul, Pouncey or Dunlap if you want a Gator, or 30 other guys in that draft were better value than Alualu.

You need to explain this value thing to me, because I don't think I'm following you....   Do I think he made our team better - definitely.  Do I think there were other players in the draft that have performed better than he has - most definitely.  What value are you really looking for?  Do you think that Atlanta got 'value' from trading away what they did for J. Jones?  Think of all the other players they may miss out on.
So if we can't critique his drafting in the past because hindsight is 20/20, and we can't critique what he has done recently because that doesn't give any time to prove their worth, when can we realistically look at Gene's resume??

QuoteSeriously I wonder if one of you are married to Gene, or one of his immediate relatives.

Seriously I wonder if some of you have bought into an office pool about when Gene was going to get fired and the clock's ticking.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

What does this have to do with the Jags, or even our discussion.  I never wanted Tebow here, so I don't understand your point.

val·ue/ˈvalyo͞o :  a fair return or equivalent in goods, services, or money for something exchanged

Or would you like an analogy?  Gene Smith paid Porsche prices for KIA production.

He's dead man walking. Khan knows he needs to shake things up. If they only win two or three games, I don't see how Khan can justify keeping Mularkey. I think Mularkey is probably a good coach and seems like a good guy but he is in a tough situation right now because he was a "Gene Hire". There have been one-and-done coaches before. Cam Cameron in Miami and Jim Mora in Seattle are recent examples that come to mind. We tried the new GM/same coach thing in 2009 and it is proving to be a failure.

Hold up. Mularkey's been here for less than one year and he inherited a team that was already terrible. He gets more time to prove himself. I really think the same about Gabbert.

If a new GM comes in, he has no allegiance to keeping Gabbert as a starter unless it's mandated by Khan. And at this point it seems Khan is very hands off on football decisions. Mularkey might stay around, but I wouldn't be surprised if a new GM came in and looks for a QB that has a real chance at unseating Gabbert whether it be via draft or free agency. But I'm pretty sure that Henne definitely won't be around to collect the 2.3m he's owed next year. That'd be a worse decision than the initial decision to sign him to begin with.

It's not so much about 'depth' per se, it's about having quality depth at key positions.  We have a damn good back up RB.  Our DT/DE position is strong.  Prosinski seemed to play well, so that project is coming along.   What we don't have are TEs, OLs and LBs (though they're not horrible and getting back Smith will be huge).  Last year it was CBs, but we led the league in IR by a wide margin.   Sure, everyone has injuries, we just keep getting them in key positions.  You can't carry 15 OLs.
So much of your post is amusing but I'll just hit on this part because my time is limited.

Agree with you on the backup RB.  He is an above average NFL backup RB.

DE is not strong at all.  In fact, its one of the weakest DE units in the league.  We have to hope that Branch comes on strong next year (most rookie DEs do not do much).  Mincey is a nice player, that's it.  Lane has done nothing and is constantly hurt.  Chick is a one trick pony and can't play the run. Selvie is a scrap heap DE.  Far from a strong unit.

Same can be said for the DTs.  Knighton has had a very very average year.  Same with Alualu who was drafted to be a knifing pass rusher from the DT position.  Mosely and Smith are average backups.  Our defense is giving up 4.4 yards per carry (24th in the league) and 147 yards per game (29th in the league).  We also have only 5 sacks for the season (dead last in the league).  So any discussion of the dline being a strength is beyond laughable.

We have TEs.  Our TE unit is actually decent they just have to stay in to block because the oline is so bad.

And Prosinski???  Please.  The NFL is not a place for projects.  Those guys go on the practice squad.  He misses half of his damn tackles.  He has no business on an NFL roster.

I find it amazing that someone can actually argue that Gene Smith should be kept.

Unfortunately, it's just bad luck for Mularkey. He was Gene Smith's pick to be head coach. When Gene Smith is fired, he might be as well. I think it would be the smart move. If you are going to truly rebuild, you do it with a new GM and a new coach.

^I don't know about that. Mularkey was hired explicitly to work on our particular needs, ie Gabbert and the offense. But it's hard to develop a QB (who has shown flashes of improvement, after all) when there's no line and serious problems in the receiver core. I think the decision makers will take into account that he's really not part of the house that needs cleaning.

That will be entirely up to the new GM.  Historically, the new GM is going to come in, fire everyone, and bring in his own guys.  That's just the way it goes.

This is how my weekend is shaping up.  I'm flying up to the game, going to sit in sub freezing temps to watch what might be the worst Jags team in their history, with no MJD, probably no QB or at least a broken one, AND I'm going against Aaron Rodgers in 2/3 fantasy leagues.

I'd cry, but I think the tears will freeze to my face.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

Don't forget, Shad Khan will be on this Sunday's 60 Minutes. I really will be looking forward to the obligatory Pandora's Box question; Some idiot reporter will say to Khan "Are you planning to keep the team in Jax?" Very suspenseful, and well thought out question.  ::)

Any guesses on how badly we'll get killed today? 30, 40 points? Good thing GB has a couple of WR's out this game.

If we had any significant TALENT, we could have won this one. Also, when will the coaching staff/players learn....if you want a first down, throw PAST the sticks.
