I remembered him as being worse than that statistically (I checked the stats after I posted).  Either way, he didn't have a good QB rating at all in either year (76 and 67), seemingly regressed and was on the chopping block in 2003, and didn't take his quantum leap forward until 2004 (after SD had drafted Eli, then dealt him for Rivers, in the anticipation that Brees wasn't going to work out).

Well that was all handled miserably by A.J. Smith....what is it with the "Smiths"?
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

He was not in the same situation as Gabbert either. I can not recall any rookie QB in a very long time that was in a mess of a diaster such as the Jags had last year. That completely set his development back. When we drafted him ,we knew he wasnt NFL ready but we threw him out there anyways. So whatever the case, the Jags 90% of the blame at the moment.

Exactly. They would not have taken Rivers if they believed Brees was the answer. They passed on Fitzgerald with that first pick. Imagine if the Chargers would have had Brees, Tomlinson, Fitzgerald and Gates on offense. Holy cow.

But instead they have A.J. Smith. Who has managed to come out of everyone one of their meltdowns.

Give A.J. Smith credit for one thing; his 2004 draft was pick-for-pick, one of the most productive in NFL draft history.  Seems he's been living off that glory since then.  And of course you have to mitigate the quality of that draft with the fact that he didn't need to take Eli/Rivers, as well as Brees started to play that very season.

dont much about David Carr actually. But with Gabbert, he had a lame duck coaching staff, who was actually no coaching AT ALL,  he was not NFL ready (which we knew when drafting him, was thrust into the line up after two QB changes in just two weeks, no offseason, a franchise in complete disaray, etc etc. There not many people that cant compare to that.  ;D

The onside kick that the Jags got should have been challenged.  A Jag touched the ball before 10 yards.   Raiders were stupid not to challenge.  WOW

I hope MJD's foot is ok too.

The ball bounced up and hit a Jag before the kick went 10 yards.

What a smelly game. Simply horrible.

I'm not saying that Gabbert is a world beater by no means, but I think that we easily would have won that game if he didn't get injured. DD, Henne is garbage indeed.

Henne appeared to be a little better when he was down in Miami.  He looked pretty bad today but that's probably rust and a lack of familiarity, more than anything else.  Nevertheless, Oakland sucks.  That's a team you shouldn't give up +20 points too.
