Though I do not go there, I believe you would find a large percentage of the people at that 'church in our city's core,' are as intelligent as you are Ron.

1) You say "Though I do not go there"--albeit, you clearly "went there."

I live so far down in St. Johns that I can't find FBC on radar. Perhaps I should have said, "I do not attend FBC," it would have been easier to understand.

2) I highly doubt (I'm almost completely certain) that a "large percentage of the people at that 'church in our city's core' are" not as intelligent as Ron........

Your welcome to doubt whatever you'd like, but to be 'almost' completely certain is to be uncertain. Just as your belief that God doesn't exist, is trying to prove a negative, your certainty that the FBC masses are not as intelligent as Ron would indicate that you know the minds of at least 51% of their congregation. It's really kind of funny Ben, I never would have taken you for an elitist.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday on the news. She's gonna be on Nat Geo's 'Taboo'.

I went to her website. It's like most "ministry" sites..it's less about the message and more about the messenger.

She focuses on her "gifts." Her "anointing." Then she has her amazing story of redemption. As well the beginnings of her potential multi-billion dollar idea, newfaithbook.com (a social media website for christians. It's coming soon).

Still, it's the self-proclamation of "apostle" that bothers me most. Not because I have a special place or esteem for "apostles" but because I think of, well, Jesus.

If I'm to take the gospels at face value; Jesus, whose faith and lessons Kim should be following, continually evades and dismisses questions like, "are you the Messiah? or "are you the son of God?" My interpretation, titles are a moot point..."You're trying to figure out my pedigree but the most important thing is what I'm saying and doing."

We have a class of christian ministers that are so caught up in titles (not only is she an Apostle but she is also a "Dr."   ::)) that it makes me wonder if salvation, as they proclaim it, has been as powerful as they (she) would say.

If Jesus is the life altering, mind-bending, eye-opening path to God I can't help but think that, man, she should be focused less on the "look who I am!" and more on the beatitudes. And, that is what bothers me most about Kimberly Daniels: self-aggrandizement.

And I feel the same way about Lady Gaga.

Peter Rummell's wife gave Daniels great $ support in her campaign. Blame her. Strange bed fellows.

Preach it, Cat. How do the crazies stay in office? Can we please exorcise the voters of Jacksonville? Those demons aren't budging... :-/

Actually some of the City Council members should team up and make a reality show , with Ms. Daniels as the high empress.

What a mockery.

Wonder what are her chances of being reelected?  This is a bit over the top.  I understand convictions of faith, but this could make her be seen in a different light.

She would never get my vote.  The same goes for several others in Council, one of which I am embarrassed to say I did vote for.

From ronchamblin

For most of us human type animals, there seems to be a need in the mind for wonder and ghosts and monsters and yeti's and demons and angels and devils and UFO’s and GODS and RELIGIONS and spirits and exorcisms and witches and tales and tigers and bears. And to some degree that need is satisfied right at the church in our city's core.

from Ocklawaha

You might all agree that she seems to be a cerebral dwarf, but that begs the question, is it because of her outspoken belief's, or is it because she believes in God?

Though I do not go there, I believe you would find a large percentage of the people at that 'church in our city's core,' are as intelligent as you are Ron.

Sorry about my delay in response Ock.  Been working, sleeping etc.  To review, I think my comment above avoids suggesting that a significant percentage of the members at the church lack general intelligence, but I am suggesting that many people including myself have a need or inclination to wonder, to entertain the strange, the ideas of ghosts, religions, spirits, gods, yeti’s, demons, UFO’s, and of the ideas about any of the strange possibilities in the universe.  Intelligence is not the issue.  Persuasions, opinions, ignorance, behavior, control over community, political power, habits of thought, and complacency seems to be of interest.

Although I might occasionally and carelessly do so, I attempt to avoid discussing anyone’s general intelligence because not only is it difficult to define, and therefore difficult to measure, but its nature is like the deformed hand, something one is set with by fate, and therefore something outside of one’s will or choice.  Who, if one contemplates it, can attack innate deficiencies?

I am suggesting that we all have a kind of need to wonder, to extend our thoughts to areas not clear to all, to areas without substance or truth for all to see.  And I suggest that to some degree, this is whats happening at the church.  After all, the idea of gods and devils and sin and forgiveness from some entity is outside of the realm of proof at least for the present, and therefore is similar to the ideas of UFO’s and yeti’s.

But no, I don’t suggest that she is a cerebral dwarf.   One could argue that she does have outspoken beliefs because she believes in a god, but this is awkward, as the belief in a god and a belief in exorcism implies different levels of outspokenness from the norm.  There seems to be a different level of oddity when comparing exorcism and simply believing in a god, because it is probable that there are more currently who believe in the existence of gods and heaven and hell, and fewer who believe in exorcisms and demons.

But… intelligence and cerebral dwarfism?  I like to assume that all of us have little savant tendencies, abilities extraordinaire, so that although we each exhibit deficiencies and mediocrities, we have hidden within us abilities which allow for surprising qualities to emerge with time, and when needed.  This gives one hope for success or stability, not only for oneself, but for others.  It allows us to more easily forgive other’s apparent deficiencies, and to expect and hope better from them down the road.

There is more to be said about the function of the church environment in shaping the thoughts of those within, and the consequences to society and the community.  There is more to be said about the nature of the church, the motives of the leadership within, and the control and affect upon the community within which the church operates.  But it is getting late.

Timkin

To be supposedly such a steward of the Lord , I have heard too many occasions where common folk would observe her (outside of council chambers) being rude , arrogant and condescending.

Her faith (or lack thereof) is not my issue with her.  It is how she conducts herself.   I don't buy her game one bit as a minister and certainly not as a council person.  She got that seat by votes , not expertise.

That said I am an expert in neither situation.   But I can tell common courtesy from rude and arrogant.  Doesn't take any special degree to know the difference.
