That's odd.  I was there shortly after 4:30 and did not see you.  I guess we just missed you.

I am a big fan of Springfield.  Although I do not reside there, I visit frequently and like to support businesses there.  I would eventually like to purchase some rental property there also if something attractive becomes available and I am prepared.

I've visted 3 times already and I love there as well. Are there any update on expanded hours? It'd be nice to have something other than a bar/pub open after the sun goes down.

Hello all. My first post, but a frequent reader. I have roots in Jacksonville and also Gainesville, and I'm always encouraged by new economic development in Springfield.

One question, maybe someone has an answer. The property on Main street, I believe its Main/8th....it used to house a furniture store and Bateh's grocery.  What's going on with that building. Maybe I'm wrong but it appears to be prime property for someone to develop.

Thanks

You are correct, they are prime, sadly nothing has been done with them as yet. The furnature Store is very large, and even at $5 a sq foot, its a significant investment. If the owner would make a move to at least get it to raw space, and then give short term favorable rents, it would be a huge boost. The residential side of the community is on cruise control, even with the housing market imploding elsewhere, but Main St seems to be that elusive last item.

SPAR has now partnered with LISC, and along with other community organizations, a sincere effort is being made to encourage development. SRG is currently building 3rd and Main for the Cesarys, and I know that efforts are being made to get quality tenants in there once it opens next summer.

7th and Main should be developed in the next year or so, and hopefully will bring enough interest to Main to kick some of the other owners into high grear (or really any gear at all)

Cross your fingers. This next year or so should be a good one for the progress on Main.

I"ll have to admit it was PRETTY KOOL! The Governor was apparently downtown to sign a piece of legislation and had some time on his hands...he asked if there was a nice place to grab a cup of coffee. Someone told him about us and he and his security guards came! I was busy buzzing around the hood with a client...and Jeff sends me a text. The Governor is here! I'm like???? the Governor??? I raced back and sure enough there he was! He stayed for about 20 minutes, we had live music which usually plays every lunch time on Wednesday...but he had to move it to Thursday..anyway the point is...he picked up the guitar and started playing some song---I guessed "Smoke on the Water" (he was amused). It in fact was a Beatles song (not played well at all). Anyway, it was WAY FUN.

Two weeks ago http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1837590/ Arron Staton, one of the stars of Emmy Award Winning MAD MEN on AMC was in with his wife on Thursday evening. His mother plays the fiddle along with Al Poindexter every Thursday night here at the Layers. It was kool to see him on the Emmy Stage a few days later....I was like...that guy was just here in the hood with us!

Anyway, if you haven't been to see us in a while come on in! There's lots of new stuff going on!

P.S. Our lunch menu is growing!

That is urban living -- you never know what will happen next!

Yesterday the governor and today Jimmy the crawling mad man.

That's entertainment.

I can't believe such a place exists in Springfield; quite a long ways from the red neck tavern honky tonks that graced that area back in the day.  Hooray for 3 Layers and hooray for Springfield (in other words..."Hello Hooray!").

I must drop in next time I'm in "Big Jax."
