Blackmon got a 500.00 fine and community service. I assume he's on probation as well. The part I like is that it is a deferred one year sentence, meaning if he does everything he is supposed to, he wont do jail time. If he screws up, he gets locked up. His punishment is pretty much in line with OKC state law for a DUI first offense, so I wouldnt call it slap on the wrist.  Sounds like we can get the deal done easily now.

DD you are forever the optimist lol

If anything this makes his contract more difficult to negotiate. If you're the GM - do you give a guy a guaranteed fortune when he has 1 year of jail waiting for him on a slight slip up?
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

No you dont, and that is the point. That is something else the Jags could use to get some leverage, and there wouldnt be much Blackmon agent's could argue about...although he will try. They have a little bit more to play with now. I believe that is what they were waiting on.

The Jags wisely have already tried to leverage an "off-set clause" relieving them of any 'guaranteed money' if they were to cut him. Blackmon would be the only 1st round selection to have this clause in his contract and that puts an extreme strain on contract negotiations.

I hope this gets resolved soon but... this could last through training camp... which starts this Friday.

If I were negotiating for the Jags, I would offer a larger overall contract - say #3 money, with less guaranteed up front; larger, incrementally increasing roster bonuses to be paid each year and to not fully guarantee anything (offset) if he were to be cut or traded inside of the 4 years.

On another note the Jaguars Fan Guide alluded to the fact that fans would be allowed to bring food into the stadium this year. That should negate anyone saying that it costs too much money to bring their family to games and feed them. Pack your brown bag lunches and juice box and just go.

I'm not always British, but when I am I prefer Stouts.
