Another "outside of the box" moment for the organization in regard to selling tickets. This is going to be a GREAT season.

QuoteFlorida Vs. Georgetown Basketball Game Could Be Packaged With Jaguars Ticket

On November 9, the Florida Gators and Georgetown Hoyas will face each other in a basketball game on the deck of a U.S. Navy vessel in Jacksonville. According to Kevin Brockway of the Gainesville Sun, tickets will be made available for the game to the public on a limited basis (for about 4,000-5,000 fans).

One day before that game the Jaguars are set to face the Colts at Everbank Field in a Thursday Night Football event that could be packaged with the Florida vs. Georgetown game, according to Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment executive director Alan Verlander.

"We are working on it," Verlander said. "There is a way to sell tickets, per se, but NAS Mayport can’t sell tickets on base. So we’re working on a package deal right now involving the Jaguars."

"We're expecting it to be a hot ticket."

If the Jaguars are able to work out a package deal it sounds like an easy way to sell 4,000-5,000 seats for a nationally televised, primetime game or provide an interesting opportunity to season ticket holders.

The Dolphins may be looking to reduce capacity through tarps.

I guess the dolphins are moving to LA? LOL!! Just joking, but seriously times are changing. The economy is terrible and with all the advancements in technology, people would rather stay home and watch games. I really believe that alot of teams are going to start having capcity issues. The huge 70,000 + stadiums in the NFL are not working anymore. Markets big and small are having issues now.

I know alot of people complained about Verlander's salary with the city but I get the sense this will be the first (I can't remember if he was there when the city was awarded the US-Scotland game) of many events that he has a hand in bringing to this city. During his time at JU, he helped build the football program into one of the premier "non-scholarship" programs in the country and helped revive the basketball program. And both of his coaching hires, Cliff Warren and Kerwin Bell, were slam dunks.

They are leveraging opportunities and that is a PLUS. With new leadership within the Jags, I think they finally get it. Our approach to tickets, say three or four years ago was " don't have a blackout." Now they are finding creative ways to fill Everbank.

New sales figures for Jags Tickets so far:

QuoteOn this week's "Jaguars This Week" show, Jaguars play-by-play announcer Brian Sexton reported that a Jaguars official informed him on Wednesday afternoon that the team achieved an eighty-six percent season ticket renewal rate from 2011 ticket holders.

Sexton also stated that in addition to the existing season ticket renewal sales, the team has sold an additional 5,440 season tickets this off-season. According to the team official, Sexton stated the team's goal is to sell 10,000 new season tickets before the start of the regular season. While that leaves the team with about 4,000 or so season tickets to sell in order to achieve that goal, in less than three months time, Sexton pointed out that the team stated they are ahead of new sales goals in comparison to July of '11.

A continued stream of positive reports on the progression of the offense, and a visible improvement in the pre-season, should help the team creep towards that goal. Of course, they can also be helped by their stars keeping their names off the police reports between now and July 26th.

Well Mojo has spoken. He is really making me mad. Stop being selfish and think about the team. We went to TOO Much crap last year to have to deal with this. As great as Fred Taylor was he never did this. I will say this again, MOJO is a weapon, but we lost 11 games with him, and we could lose 11 games without him. Thats my stance.. Okay my emotional rant is over.  :-X

Amen! +1,000,000!

He wants to hold out an penalize the team because he feels he is underpaid? What a great teammate and roll model. Hold firm Gene Smith! The fans are with you and we can always use Jennings, besides, the NFL is a QB league, and this is Gabbert's year to shine. MJD leads the league in rushing and the team goes 5-11, woop dee doo!

More news on the ticket front:
QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Will your tax dollars be paying for season tickets to Jaguars games?

An ordinance submitted to Jacksonville's City Council says yes, but a city councilman says no.

MORE: Jaguars meeting with city council members raises questions about Sunshine law violations

The ordinance 2012-380 was submitted during the Jacksonville City Council meeting on June 12.  It asks for $19,4456.80 to be used out of the Special Council Operating Contingency Fund to purchase 24-season tickets to one of the city's suites at Everbank field.

Chief Financial Officer Ronnie Belton says the money in the Special Council Operating Contingency Fund was general fund money that was set aside in 2008 to pay for statewide general ballots for the 2010 elections.  The ballots ended up not being needed, so Belton says the money has sat unused.

According to the city's lease agreement with the Jaguars, the city of Jacksonville has two suites set aside for them, but they have to purchase season tickets to use the suites.

For the past two years, Jacksonville has declined to buy the tickets.  During the 2011 season, the city told First Coast News the budget was too tight to pay for the tickets.  With money still tight this year, we asked city councilman Matt Schellenberg why he submitted the ordinance.

"I submitted this because I have a gentleman that is willing to pay the $19,000 some odd dollars to the city, so the city can buy the tickets. So there is no cost to the city," said Schellenberg.

Schellenberg says that gentleman is Harry Frisch with Beaver Street Fisheries.   First Coast news called Frisch to confirm the information and received a message back from his secretary saying the information we were told was incorrect.  This is the statement First Coast News received from Frisch:

"In an effort to support the Jacksonville Jaguars and at the same time, encourage growth and new relationships for the City of Jacksonville, Mr. Frisch agreed to call on other possible partners to contribute towards a Mayor's Suite at Everbank Field.  This would allow the Mayor the opportunity to meet with potential partners and visitors to the city in this venue, and forge new relationships for the growth and betterment of Jacksonville."

Ordinance 2012-380 currently mentions nothing about a private donor or donors, but Schellenberg said he is working on an amendment.

The city council has to tell the Jaguars by July 1st if they are going to be using their suites for this season or not.  We will keep you updated on what is decided.
