Tamara-B

My name is Tamara

I was born in London, England on May 6, 1991. My parents and I resided in South London until moving to Pembroke Pines, a city just outside of Miami, in 1997. I spent most of my life in Pines before attending UNF after graduating high school in 2009. While in high school, I enjoyed a great deal of reading and writing.  I was elected Vice President of my high school book club my sophmore year. A running gag throughout my four years at Flanagan high was students  claiming it was so difficult to get my attention because my nose was always buried in a book. I was a member of the Junior Varsity color guard my junior and senior year. A friend had introduced me to the team, which I reluctantly accepted at first but grew to love.

I am of Nigerian descent

My passion for reading and storytelling led me to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism at UNF. Since my arrival in Jax, I've participated in the UNF morning show operating the camera and teleprompter. I was also introduced to Final Cut Pro in my TV Production class where I learned about video editing and had the opportunity to put together video projects. It was there that I got the experience in editing, interviewing, voice-overs, and reporting.

I'm now a senior interning with Metro Jacksonville and hoping to get plenty more experience. My goal is leaned towards reporting, but I've learned that it is important to learn all aspects of the journalism field, which I hope to gain through Metro Jacksonville.

I still find time to go back to England every few years to see family.

I also enjoy blogging in my spare time :)

Hello Tamara and welcome to J'ville. Tamara, as a former radio and tv journalist with more than 16 years in the business, I hope you won't mind me giving you a little advice. Start small. Start with a small market radio or tv station. By doing that you will get to do a lot more than if you start in a big city and can only do one thing. I started as a reporter in a one man news department on a 5000 watt radio station in South Georgia. I covered everything. The cop beat. the education beat. The health beat. Spot news. Train wrecks. Plane crashes. Car accidents. Presidential visits. I did it all. Writing, recording, editing, reporting, anchoring. And had more fun doing that then I did when I got to the big city. I ended my career as president of the AP Broadcasters Association for Florida, so I think I must have been doing something right all those years. Good luck in your career choice.

That's very cool!  Sounds like a really fun job actually.
