Yeah but we need a smaller stadium right?

Wayne Weaver referred to these 70,000+ crowds in the first few seasons as "artificial attendance."

He attributed these crowds to initial excitement over the new franchise, surging civic pride, and unsustainable consumer overreach.

At one point, Jacksonville was 4th in the league in ticket revenue

We should be incredibly proud of our attendance figures in the last two years, and I don't think it's completely fair to compare 2012 figures to 1997 :D

Yeah I agree. But you know. If you look over the past 17 years, we our attendance has really not dropped drastically. If you go back to 2004, our attedance has been 62,000-69,000 the past 8 years. Thats actually not bad at all really. The 75,173 was the largest crowd we had, but of course that was a home playoff game also.

That's the supremely frustrating thing. The notion that Jacksonville does not support it's NFL franchise is just patently untrue. Our per capita attendance rate absolutely blows every other franchise out of the water with the exception of Buffalo. It's irritating that the national perception exists, but it's really depressing that people in Jacksonville have bought into it.

I know Ken. IMO we have had the most sucess in 17 years out of any franchise in the NFL. Not many team can say they done what we have in 17 years. We have continously defied odds. Not to mention we have broken, set and tied several NFL records. And we will always be known as the best NFL expansion Franchise. Its said we cant "sell out" a game, but we continuously sell more tickets than markets 2 and 3 times bigger than we are. We have had our ups and downs just as any other franchise, but its odd that the city and some fans have bought into the garbage the media spews. We act like we have low self esteem.

I will be the first one to say, Mojo is ticking me off. He picks the perfect time to throw a bitch fit about a contract. With an entire new coaching staff, new playbook, etc  you would think he would put his self aside and show up. Not a good first impression if you ask me. He does deserve a payday, dont get me wrong. But come on, its the last year of that contract anyways. He knows after the season is over they were going to take care of him. Whether he will hold on will yet to be seen. Just my two cents...

On a side note, Glad to see Pot Roast at the OTA's!!!

I don't get why some people do not understand that the stadium is simply too big for the market. Some are acting as if 67,000 is chump change. With the tarps, we have a freaking stadium that's larger than Soldier Field in Chicago, they seem to be fine with the size of their stadium.

In how many years do you guys think that Khan would ask for a new stadium to be built? Can't they just built a stadium with 62,000 seats and add temporary seats for the GA/FLA game..

Being that our lease runs to 2030, the new stadium conversation will not be coming anytime soon. However, when it does I see us building smaller and just making it expandable to accomodate FL/GA. I can see a 70,000 seat stadium being expandable to 80,000. But the stadium discussion will not even be thrown around until about 2023 at the soonest.

Don't know if anyone heard Gabberts Napoleon Dynamite reference yesterday, but it was pretty good.  I believe Mincey is gonna kill it this year.

^ lol yeah "Uncle Rico". I think Gabbert will be good this year and I'm not worried in the least about MJD not being at these voluntary workouts. If anyone comes into a season always prepared, it's him. And actually I think he has 2 years left on his current contract. After taking care of Scobee, I think management should at least consider extending MJD. He and Scobee have been our only offensive weapons for a while when you think about it.

yeah I agree. I just personally worried about the new offense being installed. Yeah hes elite and probably would catch on quick, but what if he doesnt? Not too mention this is the first time he's is playing under a new coaching staff. You have to feel them out. Just this offseason, I think he shoulda been there. I kinda compare it to my job. Company has been bought, new management is in and you call out and say " Im not coming, yall not paying me enough." LOL must be nice to be a football player cause that would fly in real life. But we dont know yet. Hopefully he's there at the start of training camp. He may just be putting the bug in their ear.

Not for a while. The city and team have done a great job in keeping the stadium upgraded. And from what I hear, that is continuing this offseason.

Jdog

FedEx Field is down about 14,000 seats, replaced by party deck areas (suite upgrades or something of the like as well).

Ever any thought of permanently taking out some seats (top half or so) in the North End zone put in a party deck / more vending space.  Maybe real basic, not elaborate...(You can still put up seating for college games on a deck).

Think it's too expensive?  Just not a good idea?

Your right the only problem is now that we are not filling the stadium up now that its been reduced and the tarps in some eyes will always be seen as a negative. Sure we haven't had any black out but the stadium is far from looking full on TV and that's what people see. Unfortunately no one cares about our actual attendance numbers.
