Post and McDuff

Does anyone know what is going on at Post and McDuff and with the Roosevelt Bv Service road that runs parellel with the tracks? The service road has been torn up for a couple months and now the grade crossing for Post and McDuff is also blocked completely. CSX just did a repair job there not too long ago so I don't think its them. The DOT has something going on there, but I can't find out what. Anyone have any ideas?

They're just redoing "Old Roosevelt" that goes from 17 to post street in the same way they redid 17 itself. Railroad did their thing, now DOT is doing their thing. They've been taking their time on it because it's not as vital as 17.. so it's not like they've been hurrying or anything.

Yes, they are repairing the concrete.  They are also going to reduce the lanes from 4 to 2.  It will be done in the fall of this year.

I hope they leave space for turn lanes. But why even reduce it? Is CSX planning on adding an extra track there and they need the row?

The 4 lanes as they are now are very narrow (I think less than 10 feet) so I would assume that they want to reduce it so they can have a two lane with standard width lanes.  That segment does not have a lot of traffic so reducing lanes won't cause any capacity issues.

You may be right there cline. But I've driven that part man, many times and the lanes did not seem narrow to me at all. Course i am in a smaller car but they didn't seem that narrow. Who knows? Guess we'll find out come fall. But why they have Post and College blocked is a mystery since the other part of that intersection at College and McDuff is open.

From what I understand FDOT is doing a lane diet (see that does happen here in jax. sometimes)....after ity id reuced to 2 lanes it will be turned over to the City.

It looks like they took out all of the concrete from the ground, from what I have seen driving on that side of town.  It seems like they only resurfaced the concrete, taking away a layer or two by grinding it down, on U.S. 17 last year.

I'll say, they also are removing it in sections. Look at the Edgewood exit, they have circled cracks in new concrete, which will no doubt be removed and repaired, or who knows, pulled out and rebuilt. Please dear lord, do not use the idiots pouring the crete on I-95 near JTB. That ride is rough enough to break your teeth.

Off-thread - Anyone else notice the new steel plates in the center of I-95 South at the top of the Fuller Warren? Is our new bridge having problems already in its short existence?

They're not finished yet.  They replaced the concrete, then they will go back and smooth it later.  I believe it has to cure for a period of time.  The project won't be done until next spring.
