QuoteIf your bagel doesn't look like it was hand formed and both ends joined together..(Shudder..hole cut out) it might not be real.
A real bagel has a chewy crust and soft But chewy inside, usually with large bubbles to trap more shmear.
A real bagel should leave your jaw hurting slightly from chewing.

Right on! You may well like what they are serving, but it ain't bagels. If you want bagels, try Panera or Einstein's - they're much closer to the real deal.

OK I was agreeing with you until you go to the "if you want bagels, try Panera or Einstein's".....you're joking, right?

I'm gonna say this and I don't care who knows it. I love Panera's bagels. AND their light roast coffee. (Plus they're close to my office)

I said it, and now I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Honey vanilla spread on a bagel??? Why not jelly?? C'mon, buy some lox and put on top of the cream cheese, add some finely diced onion and you'll be in heaven. BTW, lox is (are?) lightly salted smoked salmon.

Ben Says: I said "close to the real deal." What's your recommended place in town and why?

In town? Well...not Panera or Einstein. Eisten: way too doughy, not crispy outside, reminiscent of bread. Panera: factory frozen, also tastes too much like bread. Healthy bagel: terrible. Bagel world: 3/5 stars. Bagel love: 4/5.

Did a "Consumers Report" style side by side with Einstein Bagels a couple weekends ago.

Ordered a cinnamon raisin , one each from both stores, split them open and set them side by side.

Liked the size and feel of the BL product, slightly larger than EB.
Tasted great and had a good texture.
I usually enjoy Einstein, it's the bagel my kids love.
They were not too turned on by BL , so I got to eat it all.

Biggest difference was EB had 2-3 times more raisins inside. So my suggestion is to BL to kick up the
raisin count in their cinnamon RAISIN bagel. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Where exactly are they located?

Near Harpoon Louie's and Fishweir Creek. Herschel, too.

peeling a bagel here so to speak........
South of Fishweir Creek, just a wee bit,and therefore not officially Avondale.

Huge fan of bagel love....there are a few things that don't do it for me, i.e. weak coffee, not a lot of coffee options, inconsistent food and service, terrible whitefish salad, bad veggie cream cheese (i think they use olives in their veggie--mortal sin in my book), BUT, i think on the whole, it's good food and better for the neighborhood. Also, love the owners...super nice and mean well.

I have been late in stopping by Bagel Love, but I give them huge credit for not being a chain store and making fake dough bagels like Einstiens.
Dessert Bagels ruffle my feathers...if you want sugar go get a fried donut.
Anyone know how much a dozen in a bag would be?

Can't help agreeing with everything you said. I must admit, the "dessert bagels" comment made me laugh. Are you from the North? These sentiments you're expressing re: bagels may get you in trouble down here.

1-Einsteins sucks, end of story. I mean common, they're just bread with a hole cut in the middle. Last time I was I had to request that they triple toast my bagel (yes, triple) to make it even slightly resemble what a bagel should taste like.

2-Never understood sweet bagels. +1 on your fried donut recommendation.

3-Don't remember how much the dozen is...think its somewhere between 8-10?

FYI-the bagel dough at BL is not fresh or made on property--it's made in Titusville and flash frozen/shipped. Hey, at least they're boiled then baked.
