Anyone know what the status of this project is? I see there is a sign up front. Can't wait until there's a real bagel place opening up - assuming that's what it is!

Will they be making the bagels on the premises?

That's what I hear....would love to get some more info on this project. Outside of Healthy Bagel (which sucks) and Bagel World (beaches), can't find a homemade bagel anywhere....

I have to disagree with the comment about Healthy Bagel on San Jose and University.  It has the best bagels that I know of in Jax.  While it does not have true Ny/Nj bagels, it is pretty close.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I find that Healthy Bagel (how do they call those healthy?!) are just round pieces of bread with a whole cut in the middle. Pretty sure they don't boil them, just bake.

I know it's hard to find a NY bagel in the south, it's not impossible, and I guess that's why I'm striving for something 'better'...I've had genuine NY bagels all over South Florida, some areas in NC and GA. Also found a place that's damn good in Charleston (Bagel Nation).

Hoping Bagel Love gets at least kind of close to a NY bagel.

Bagel World at the beach is awesome.

Ortega River Bridge now closed until end of April, probably will be closed a total of 12 months. Tom Turnage who owns the Bagel World building had stated his extreme desire to fix the bridge so that the neighborhoods were not so divided.

Oy vey!  NY bagel or not, bagels are BOILED not steamed...then baked. Some makers have malt in the water.
If your bagel doesn't look like it was hand formed and both ends joined together..(Shudder..hole cut out) it might not be real.
A real bagel has a chewy crust and soft But chewy inside, usually with large bubbles to trap more shmear.
A real bagel should leave your jaw hurting slightly from chewing.
Even though there are a lot of old Eastern Jews in South Florida, My Boca catering friend told me the bagel shops have adapted to their older jaws and teeth= softer bagels.

There...I hope you are hungry now. ;D

Bagel Love is officially open today and I just finished my second bagel of the morning.

Hours right now (which are subject to change based on traffic count) is 6AM to 2PM.

Might go back tomorrow at lunch and try that veggie sandwich (participating in No Meat March this month).

Thanks for the heads up....

I assume it's too soon to ask the obvious: how do they compare to a real, NY bagel?
