^ I'm kinda troubled that they haven't been able to reach an agreement with Scobee or Lowery at this point. I'd definitely make Scobee one of the highest paid kickers in the league. He's not number 1 but definitely in the top 5. Lowery... I'd just hate to see us lose a starting safety when we struggled for at least 3 or 4 seasons to find one.

they named Scobee their franchise player...so he can't go anywhere this year

and with the tag, he gets paid an average of the top 5 salaries at his position, so you're both right.

For a dose of reality: The Mathis contract (1 mil bonus and 950,000 base) is outstanding. The organization is all ready acting more intelligent. We might actually be seeing the start of a competent organization(no offense to Weaver lovers but it starts at the top). I think I hear angels singing.  If it is wrong to be in love with Khan than I don't want to be right.

I agree with this as well.  From my POV, this was a really classy thing to do.  We might treat our QBs like total shit, but we seem to have gotten right with this one.  2MM guaranteed, plenty of incentive to play for pay and it puts him right back into playing for FA again.  He was having a pretty good season prior to the ACL tear and they seem to be rewarding that by giving him a do-over.  It's a good contract for both sides.

I would like to see Lowery back also but I wonder what he is looking for in a deal. I'd prefer to let him walk than to overpay him.

Yeah I'm not really concerned with Scobee leaving. I know he went out of his way during the off-season to make it known he didn't want to be franchised and had no intention of signing the franchise tender. I guess it's just a matter of keeping your best players happy. Just get it done. How tough could it be to come to an agreement with a kicker? Not that this is the same situation but I'm still upset that we let Podlesh go. I guess we thought he was easily replaceable and we see how that worked out for us...

The Jags resigned Guy Whimper today... That's surprising. He was horrible.

Word on the street is we matched the Bears offer, but Poldesh decided to leave anyways.

DD08, I pulled this one for you from Twitter to try and stir up your F-the Media Nerves...

It's unreal how ignorant some in the media are about Jax as an NFL market. See Boston radio guy Thursday. Do your homework, dude

I don't know what the guy in Boston said, but for the media to be bashing one of their own, it must have been pretty bad.

Yup, I'm 'painting' all of the misguided Jags fans who want Manning here with a broad brush. Oh, I'm satisfied as long as the Jags try desperately to get Manning even though it's not gonna happen, get real; So all of yall 'Manning to Jax' people are basically giving up on Gabbert already. Gabbert was only the YOUNGEST NFL QB to start fourteen games, with an awful receiving corp, and an inconsistent O-Line; Yes the Jags do 'intend' for #11 to be the franchise QB; Only time will tell if he is or not, but it's way too early to give up on him already.

With our O-line, Manning would get sacked on every drive. There are 10-15 other teams that want Manning. For 99.9% of them, it will be a pipe dream .SO far, he has only scheduled to talk to the Broncos. It would be nice if Gabbert could set back and learn like he was supposed to, but I think we would do more bad than good by playing the ole switch-a-rue again. If we think Gabberts confidence is shook now, what do you think will happen if we strip him of the starting role after one season and give it to someone else? Not to mention we are the ones who put Gabbert in this situation. ( we as in Del Rio and company).

^^^I totally agree. I seriously believe that some of these Jag fans will really get aroused just by hearing rumors that Khan had talked to Manning about being the starting QB, never mind it actually happening; The conversation rumor would be enough for that 'tingling inside' feeling. LOL

Since I guess I got painted with your broad brush of convenient truth, I guess I should ask you to re-read my post on the matter:

I can't believe that I'm about to type this.

I think we should seriously consider signing PM and Reggie Wayne.    :'(  (That was harder than you realize)

I've wrestled with it and have come to the conclusion that even at 80% - adding those two automatically make us a 11-5 / 12-4 team with a real chance to do something in the post-season.

1.)  His health appears to be an issue, but if he's signed, then I'm confident he can play, so really, health is a non-issue.
2.)  I don't believe in 'mentoring' per se, but I think that just being around the guy and seeing how he approaches the game could only benefit Gabbert.  He can see what PM looks for in the film room, he can see how he carries his day to day routine, he can listen to the questions that PM asks his coaches during the game and in specific situations.  Blaine can learn from one of the best just by seeing how it's done.
3.)  We only need a 2-3 year window.  Peyton isn't going to sign a 3 yr contract, but we all know that GS has no problem cutting a QB.   ::)  This gives time for Blaine to develop under normal circumstances and he can start when he's ready.

4.)  Immediately, we sell some tickets.  Won't put a number on it, but it would be noticeable.
5.)  A legit passing game will only make our running game better.

These are just a few of the things off the top of my head.

I don't know where you picked up on him not being the franchise QB or where I was giving up on him.  Ease up with those brush-strokes buddy.   :D

Quick, without Wiki or Google, name 1 other lineman for the Colts not names Jeff Saturday.......  waiting........   waiting.......  Times UP!

C'mon man.  Peyton makes a lot of things look better than they really are.  You know why he doesn't get sacked?  Because when he reads blitz, he calls a slant or a run at the line of scrimmage or he sends some telepathic message to either Wayne or Dallas Clark.  He was/is one of, if not THE, best ever QBs to play the game.  Honestly, I think he still wouldn't get sacked if it were just a center and 2 guards because he would have the ball out before anyone got close.

Blaine didn't have the options or the experience to check out, so he payed the price.  The Great Wall of China wouldn't have protected Blaine for a lot of the plays.
