I guess this has to keep happening before the city does something about it. First Arlington expressway, now the hart expressway. This city is a hazard to anyone that is not in a car.

A female pedestrian was struck and killed today while crossing Jacksonville's Hart Expressway.

She was the second person in the city to be hit by a vehicle in just four hours, police said.

The female, whose name and age were not available, was heading north across the freeway when a garbage truck hit her, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

It happened about 10 a.m., police said.

Northbound Hart Expressway is closed between University and Beach boulevards while police investigate the crash scene.

A vehicle hit another pedestrian earlier today on Atlantic Boulevard. That happened about 6:30 a.m. in the 6900 block.

The unidentified pedestrian was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital with life-threatening injuries, JSO Sgt. R.A. Harville said. Crash investigators are working to learn more about the driver and vehicle. Police will provide a description when it is availabl

The city doesn't care about you unless you've spent hundreds on having a car. You also have to be in your car driving it in order to benefit from the city's carelessness.

For example, I heard about a woman that had car trouble. She got out of her car to go to a gas station for help. She was struck by a car, and since she wasn't in her car, she was treated as one of those good for nothing pedestrians and the driver was of course not charged, simply because she was on foot.

Why won't the city crack down on bad driving? I've said it many times here, it would serve as a great source of revenue. I guess they just don't want to upset their precious drivers. It's BS

How many pedestrian crosswalks are needed on each road and how far apart? I see people cross Beach daily, not at crosswalks mind you, between St. Johns Bluff and Southside Blvd. The people don't look like they really care to put the drivers at risk for their version of Frogger on the road.

I've seen people cross I-95 just north of Emerson because they were too lazy to walk down to either Emerson or the San Diego road. Forget the fact that people who cross a road without a cross walk are just plain ignorant and have a death wish, but I do agree that they are a minor issue compared to the idiots playing words with friends while they are driving.

Or maybe they just long for the good old days back before their neighborhood was bisected by a six-lane interstate roadway.  Back when they could walk to their neighbors house a block away without dodging multiple lanes of SUVs.

There are some nice spots in South Georgia for that.

By the way, 301 on the Westside is about to start their expansion project.

I don't play.  How many points would you get for 'manslaughter'?

Just this past weekend, I saw an older man walking across Atlantic Boulevard by Bishop Kenny High School.  Instead of taking the overhead walkway, the man was jaywalking across a road where traffic is exiting the expressway at high speeds.

Let me give you my own personal experience...

I always cross (or "jaywalk") across Beach Blvd. near the Parental Homes Rd. intersection to Winn-Dixie to get my grocery because I can't drive due to DMV taking my license away due to my legally blindness condition. Don't suggest me JTA Connexion or JTA city buses for grocery runs. I can throw you hundreds of reasons all day, and you don't want to hear it.

What do you think it is safer... cross the intersection of Parental Homes Rd. / Beach Blvd. OR jaywalk across Beach Blvd. over the median guard rails?

I say jaywalk across Beach Blvd.

For the record since I moved to the area back in late 2007, when I have crossed THAT intersection roughly 12 times, I nearly got hit by a car FOUR times EVEN during the time I am "ALLOWED" to cross. These drivers doesn't give a flying fuck about pedestrians.

To this day since, I have jaywalked to and back from the grocery store more than 500 times and have NEVER been nearly hit by a car (-knocks on a wood-) Why? It is simpler than you think.

As a natural flow of traffic and congestion at certain times, the red lights goes through cycles where cars has to stop for other red lights to open up the traffic in order to maintain the consistency. This creates a "break" in the traffic cycle where I can cross safely with no cars for at least 400 feet before next car comes closer.

With the "break" from the traffic in support, I also only need to look ONE DIRECTION which makes it easier for my vision.

All I can say to you Jacksonville drivers who don't give a damn about pedestrians, here is my answer to y'all:  _|_(@_@)_|_

@Josh - It is good that you do what works for you.  The pedestrians who scare me are the ones who saunter across the road as if they have superpowers that render them invincible from tons of steel headed their way...

I say jaywalk AND look before you cross. It's crazy I know, but it works. I've walked across the Fuller Warren bridge before because, well. going across the Acosta is 0.8 miles longer and that's 15 extra minutes if you're on foot.

FYI, (like I really need to clarify this)  don't attempt to cross the Fuller Warren on foot. JSO busted me last time I tried and let me off with a warning.  It would be nice if we had a pedestrian pathway on that bridge though.  And maybe a few "catwalk" like overpasses as seen between University and Emerson.

I vote for pedestrian overpasses at both Alderman and Townsend Roads.

Because its not about safety, and cops only write tickets to fill quotas. Rarely is it because someone is actually a danger on the road. And the accidents, people getting injured, dying, cars getting smashed, etc are actually a major stream of revenue & industry creators. Sick I know.

So you are saying that we should let the city off the hook for not looking out for our best interest of the citizens? I guess we should continue to blame the citizens for the lack of planning on city (or JTA's) part? If you think that have pedestrain cross walks are not necessary, you definately have issues. And for anyone to defend that is a complete idiot. That is all.

FYI- I wonder if you tone would be different if that was your sister or mother killed.
