Downtown 7-Eleven Design Revised & Approved

It appears one of downtown's surface parking lots will soon disappear, only to be replaced with slurpees.  On Feb. 2, 2012, the Downtown Development Review Board (DDRB) granted final design and signage approval for a 7-Eleven convenience store and gas station at 9 East Union Street.

Given what it is, this is about as good as can be expected, IMO.  It has come a long way from 2010, and a gas/conveneience store is better than a surface lot.

I will take a Slurpee over a vacant parking lot and day!

Of course there is a downside to 7-11... Slurpee brain freeze.

Don't forget the Cuban sandwiches and Super Nachos.

Overall this sounds like a net positive. Slurpees and nachos instead of an empty lot-I'll take it.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

More great news! And Im glad to see its going to happen asap. Gas stations dont take long to build either. This will be up by the end of the summer. Right in time for the influx of employees that will be downtown also. Im sure some of those 1,500 employees will need gas at some point. LOL

I will gladly frequent this spot over the complete dump across the street.

I agree. I was driving to the Urban Leauge last night and noticed so many vancant lots last night that were full of trash, especially in Lavilla. I was just visualing building on them. We have plenty of room to build downtown for sure.

YES.  Their cubans are good.  I used to leave one on my dash when I worked construction in the summers.  Nice and hot at lunchtime!

C'mon Lake, you can be a lil' more positive than that. Atleast it's not a pocket park for the homeless. The 7 Eleven is just a small step, but soon our DT will take a giant leap into the future! (I just felt like saying something cheesy :D) For real though, any progress DT is good progress.  :)

The "only" part was probably added during the editing on the article.   I'm actually good with 7-Eleven coming in at this location and BB&T.  I'd love to see them near 8th & Main as well.
