Shahid said on the radio yesterday they have interviewed  people that haven't been rumored yet and he wants to keep it quiet. He also said people have approached them about the job. Sounds like the rumor that no one big wants to come here is bunk. People will go where they will get paid.

You right Dan. The NFL is all about the money. The other NLF owners did not like Wayne weaver because he didnt have as much money as they did. In the words of Jerry Jones, Khan is one of the more "financial suitable" NFL owners. Bottom line: If you pay it, they will come; players and coaches alike.

In fairness to Wayne, he paid Del Rio handsomely after 2007; and I'd add that I don't want us to hire a big name just for the sake of doing so if he's not the right man for the job (and we should not react negatively or assume Khan is cheap if he hires a coordinator rather than a Cowher or Fisher).

The rumor that people don't want to go to Jacksonville is entirely routed in the media's ignorance of Jacksonville and the Jaguar organization.  It's built on the assumption that the team is cheap and the fan base is apathetic.  It's the sort of thing that was said about Tampa in the pre-Dungy years when the team was indeed cheap, had a very poor player evaluation record and front office personnel, and drew 30,000 a game.

Its seems to be Tampa has struggled more than the Jags with their Franchise and they are only 15 years older than us. But of course we know no one will evet make light of that.

People made fun of the Tampa organization back then but never talked them up as a candidate to move to another city.

Actually during the early 90's, they were talked about as the leading candidate to move to Baltimore.

There Rumors re-surfacing again actually about the Glazer's selling the team. Now in their situation, they have not been able to get it together since they have had a team. (performance on the field, front office, or attendance numbers). If anybody should be going to LA it should be them, not the Jags. Anyways, back to my Jags  :D

Good point; I forgot about that.

Of course, in the early 90s people were also talking about the Patriots as a candidate to move (St. Louis being the main apparent contender) and they had only 17,000 season ticket holders.  I remember that every time some 2003-ish convert to Patriot fandom acts like New England invented football.

the Bucs first season was 1976...so they have 20 years on the Jags

but no, they aren't a good candidate for moving....Tampa Bay is the 11th largest media market

Had it not been for Robert Kraft owning the old Foxboro Stadium, they probably would have moved to St. Louis. The owner at the time was from St Louis and had just bought the team from Victor Kiam. The owner tried to buy the stadium from Kraft so he could move to Missouri. Kraft balked and instead bought the team from him.

11th largest television but yet historically has had sever issues selling tickets? That doesnt sound a good enough reason for them to stay either.

regular ticket sales do not drive the profitabaility of the nfl (luxury suites and club seats do to a certain extent)...the TV contracts and ad sales generate far more revenue....which is exactly why they want to get back into L.A.

Based on the ESPN #s we average 5.7K people more per week than Tampa Bay at the games.

Tampa - 4.2M people v/s Jacksonville - 1.3M

And it doesn't matter how large your TV market is if the team's games aren't shown.

Thanks!  I didn't know that part of the history.  Orthwein was the owner, right?  I seem to recall he was one of only two who voted against Jacksonville as an expansion city.  What happened with that whole episode where the Patriots considered moving to Hartford - was that also pre-Kraft?

I read somewhere that the Barnett Bank CEO, Rice, tried to buy the Patriots from Kiam and move them to Jacksonville, but the NFL told him it didn't want anyone taking a team out of the New England market.

Chargers are the best candidate for LA.

Wade Phillips makes me laugh. He has stated that "someone should want me as a head coach" and boosted about how good he is, but in the same sentence says that he loves his job right now and have no plans on leaving. Sounds like to me he's jaded because no one has contacted about any of the opening. Other than that, I dont see the point in his statements.

Excellent point.  Their won't be much, if any, ad sales in a market where the community doesn't support the team.  Let them have their cup cake wars & millionare matchmaker
