I had been sworn to secrecy since Halloween.... but now that the construction permit has been issued, I can let the cat out of the bag.

Jersey Mikes is coming to Jax and will be housed in the former Blockbuster storefront on Roosevelt Blvd.... across from the Shell station and opposite La Nop/Pet Supermarket.

Bring on some subs!!!

A bagel store is also going into the old gym across from Eclipse/Harps.  Us Fairfax folks are happy.  :)

Jersey Mike's is excellent!  Great location too!

Fantastic...used to go to them in South Carolina all the time. Hate to be the poor sport, but I can't help wishing they were a little more towards the core, i.e. Riverside or Downtown area...

Any word on whose running the bagel shop?

They'll get their fair shake, but it's going to take some real wow (tough for a sub) to get me over my cravings of Larry's.

Same...I don't know how LGS does it, but I'm fighting myself not to go there everyday.

At Larry's...

It is the perfect amount of sub bread that is nicely toasted with brown edges that gives a range of flavor in the bread in conjunction to the meat, lettuce, and other toppings. Also, how fresh and good quality the meat it is from Boar's Head.

I think it is the cutting style of the lettuce makes it manageable to eat at the right portion. It delivers into your mouth more efficient and effective than any other subs. For Jimmy John, the roast beef is so chewy that you have to deal with that unforgiving perk which you don't at Larry's.

And no, I am not a paid endorser for Larry's. I am just a deaf / blind guy with a high sense of taste and touch who can actually see how good Larry can be.

I literally go to Larrys at least 4 times a week.

It's always my go-to option if I can't decide what to eat for lunch or dinner(sometimes breakfast as I work on the Southside and the Southside Blvd and Baymeadows Blvd locations are open during breakfast hours).

I've never been to a Jersey Mikes, but this sounds like good news.  I'm still missing Gibbs on Riverside...:(

Just for clarification... Larrys does not use Boars Head meats.  They actually use a higher quality brand.

Wanting everything to be in the core? yup, this is definitely MJ. Thanks for the reality check, I thought that I was on another site at first.  ;)

As a metro resident with deep roots in Ortega I'm quite happy with the location in the Fairfax area. I'm sure there is more traffic on Roosevelt then over on Herschel, but I would have loved to have seen them pop onto the scene in the historic streetcar business district.

Anyone reading this and wondering where the next happening spot might be, I'd rank Fairfax near the top, it has the building fabric, green space, amenities and ease of access that make for great neighborhoods not unlike Avondale, Riverside and San Marco.

I think Fairfax is already doing quite well.  Not a whole lot of empty store fronts.  While it doesn't have the bar scene that the King Street District does, it does have a lot of different types of businesses along St. Johns.
