It was an amazing night. The city gave us a big sloppy kiss on the mouth.

Not only will they hold off on demolitions, but Springfield will become THE pilot program for "mothballing" throughout the city. If all goes right, we will be showing other communities how to take care of their abandoned properties.

Tons of info. Not the least of which is a new process "board and secure" permitting which allows homeowners to apply for a permit to board and secure with the understanding that the city will leave them alone as long as they follow the guidelines. The permitting costs involved will go to pay an enforcement officer who will make sure they are cared for. If the owner does not do his part, a local non-profit will mothball his property and monitor it for him.

This is real leadership from the city. Bill Killingsworth is truly a man of action.

Pro-active and exciting. It is also the answer to the property problems in Springfield.

I am so unbelievably happy to hear all of this. You have no idea.

The tide is finally turning on these horrible and completely unnecessary demolitions.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Preservation SOS will be on site at Walnut Court mothballing for 4 days minimum during the week of Jan 2.

Boarding windows (the mothball way)
Painting the exterior
Repairing trim
Landscaping

In these next days I will post a specific "shopping list" and help wish list.  Why?

1.  To provide an opportunity to help preserve one of our homes either with a monetary, material, or labor donation.
2.  To get out there and be active and burn off your holiday feasts.
3.  To visit with new and old friends.
4.  To learn how to properly mothball

On January 3, in the afternoon PSOS will meet with HPC on site at Dancy Terrace to evaluate the needs for the mothball COA for one of the homes.  Interested in learning about the process?  You are welcome to come along and observe.
