Cover the game, ESPN, then get the hell out.  Only things I like about that channel are Sage Steele, and an unexplainable attraction to Suzy Kolber.  Otherwise, I got no use for 'em any more.

you know the Monday night crew spent some good $ supporting our downtown businesses both times they were here this year.

fsujax

I did notice last night that Friendship Fountain was all teal.

Right...it costs money to eat and sleep when you spend a day or two out of town.  Doesn't negate ESPN's overall, anti-Jacksonville bias, or their penchant for lazy journalism in regards to our fan base.

duvaldude08

Its definately Teal Monday over here at the Prudential. I really hope they play well tonight on both side of the ball. That would be nice to see :)

yeah, but comments like yours don't help ESPN get a better impression of our city either

You're right, TUFSU, it's the comments.  That's the reason they media hates Jacksonville.  I mean what would they say if we had a debilitating snow storm, sold more tickets than we had seats and even had to import strippers from out of town?   What would they say then?

Not much, if you're Dallas.

It's not like they're going to let facts or the truth get in the way of a good storyline.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there, did you really just want to post the stripper headline?
Kells904, I'm sure ESPN is reeling from your boycott.

The "media" isn't anti-Jacksonville and doesn't hate the city. For the most part, people just don't know/care about Jacksonville. This isn't a big city nor is it a big market for sports, particularly professional. ESPN's coverage leaning towards NY/LA/Dallas/etc is simply business decisions pandering to bigger markets. You would do the same if you wanted to make advertising $$. There's no conspiracy against Jacksonville. Most people in the West and Northeast haven't heard of the place.

BridgeTroll

Just heard on the radio that the regular ESPN "crew" that does the pregame stuff will not be in Jacksonville for MNF and will be doing that portion of the show from home base in Connecticut.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

To clarify then, PJS, the sports media has a penchant for knocking the city with regards to the Jaguars.  It's not perceived, it's true.  I could go on and on about the mis-representations, but I'll save you.  If you would like some examples, I can post about 20 misrepresented 'facts' that are 'known' nationally as truth, when they are the farthest from it.

Maybe true, but if this is true also:

Then I guess they didn't feel like spending any more money here and I guarantee you that will be reflected in thier portrayal of the city during the broadcast.

I suppose it's what you get when a 4-7 team visits a 3-8 team.

Now you're talking sense! Its got nothing to do with the name of the city, its got to do with the quality (and age/popularity) of the team.

Yes, please.

Yes, but you would think they would at least want to come down and enjoy the 80 degree weather!

The following are attendance based facts.  On any given day, the talking heads will pop off with some, Jags last in attendance, they never sell out the stadium, their city's not large enought to support the team, etc...

Quote1.  Jaguars avg 2011 attendance (62,173) would lift blackout at Seahawks, Rams, Bucs, Bengals, Steelers, Lions, Vikings, Cards, Raiders, Colts & Bears

2.  SD, Cle, StL, Wash, TB, Mia and Cin have all sold a lower % of their stadium in 2011 than Jax

3.  Only Green Bay, New Orleans & Buffalo put a larger percentage of their population in seats than Jax

4.  In ’11 Jags on avg filled stadium to 92.4% capacity, more than 7 others: Chargers, Browns, Rams, Bucs, Dolphins, Jets, Bengals

5.  No Jaguars games have been blacked out since 2009

6.  Jaguars average attendance in 2010 (63,032) would have sold out the stadiums in Chicago, Oakland and Indy.

7.  How many times have the Jaguars finished last in attendance in the league? If you guessed anything but zero, you’re wrong

8.  Jax has the 4th highest % of its population at NFL home games in 2011. About 4.8%

The next few are in regards to our stadium.  When, once again, on any given day you'll hearabout how we have to cover the seats to show the games:

Quote1.  With covered seats, Everbank Field still has a higher capacity than Heinz Field, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Soldier Field.

2.  There are tarps on @EverBankField to bring stadium capacity to market size. W/out them, it’s 4th largest stadium in NFL

3.  Did you know Chicago is the NFL’s  2nd largest market, yet its stadium holds 5,000 less than #EverBankField?

Okay, so I'm closer to 10 than 20.

The biggest snafu that we've had occured last Sunday night when Peter King said that our team would probably be first in line to LA because we cover 33% of our seats with tarps.  He was blasted on social media from Jacksonville, and rather than correct himself in his weekly 'national' write-up MMQB, his weekly 'national' segment, SNF he took to twitter and issued an oops blurb.  Little things PJ, but they're really adding up across the board, and the sad fact of the matter is that A LOT of Jacksonville residents get their football info from the 'national' media types.  It's easy to get a fan to buy a ticket, but it's hard as hell to convince a fence-sitter from Mandarin to come and see a game while his hometeam is getting belittled on ESPN, FoxSports, PFT.com, SI.com and every other blog that does nothing but re-tweet bad info.

Peejay wake up and smell the coffee, the sports media does not like Jacksonville. They never have. Not sure where you have been, but since 1993 Jacksonville has been completely trashed in the sports media. Its not a conspriacy, but a fact.
