There used to be one at Blanding and 103rd in front of what used to be Albertson's. Closed around 1990 I think.

I remember that. It was the year my family moved here. There used to be a Dairy Queen across the street too and a Pic N' Save on the other corner.

I also remember a place called Mr Gatti's that was similar. Maybe on Lane Avenue.

Ah yes good ole Pic N Save. That is an entire different thread. Bump Wal-mart, Pic N Save was the bomb. If there were still around, they would be given Wal Mart a run for their money. I grew up off of Main street so I have fond memories of the one that was at 48th & Main.

I remember the Pizza Inn at the corner of Kori Rd and San Jose Blvd across Kori from what used to be the American National Bank (remember that?) in Mandarin. I spent a lot of time (and money) at the Pic N Save at Baymeadows Rd and Old Kings Rd next to Winn Dixie. Those were good times.

That was the dynamic duo. Pic N Save was almost always next door to Winn Dixe. 48th and Main was the same way.

QuoteNobody answered cgaskins question about that being a chain restuarant or not.

Yes, it was a chain.

QuoteAh yes good ole Pic N Save.

You know you've lived in Jax awhile when you give directions that end with 'right down past where the Pic N Save used to be'

I know right! We were a relatively small city in the early 90's, but this was really a fun place to stay. The Jags were brand new and taking the NFL by storm.... The 90's were our best years IMO (recently). Its seems like after the early 2000 the whole mood of the city started to change for some reason....

Goony Golf on Beach..... Razed .. Gone... Now a strip mall with the Old dinosaur in front.  EVERY Drive-in in town. GONE.. Replaced with a WALMART,  or some other store.  Putt-Putt .. Gone.     Department Stores downtown ... Gone.

The mood was changing back in the 1970s when everything that was ever interesting and beautiful ( well, pretty much ) downtown,  was closed and Razed.  All the Grande Hotels  GONE .. this insane pattern continued along with urban sprawl to kill our downtown.

The mentality is all wrong.  And the powers that be , still do not get it ...... :(

Hopefully Brown's efforft pays off. If we can get 8 years of progressive leadership this city will turn around. However, that city council is a mess...... Not all of them, but lord they are still a trip

You said it , my brother.   Like you , I do hope the Brown Admin will at least begin a turn for the positive for Jacksonville.
