Quote from: Jimmy on June 30, 2011, 02:03:30 PMI continue to believe the position of General Counsel is Audrey Moran's, if she wants it.

The more I hear that, the more it makes sense. GC has a lot of pull throughout government, and Audrey would do well in that role.

While the swearing in ceremony happens later today, Jacksonville is now under the faithful stewardship if its new Mayor, Alvin Brown.

The charter, not a ceremony, controls on this point.  Alvin assumed office at exactly 12:00 a.m., July 1.

Congratulations and godspeed, Mr. Mayor.

I am still praying for a major change in this city. I have faith it will happen.

He has made a great move keeping Kerri Stewart through the budget cycle.

For those who couldn't make it down to the convention center this morning, WJCT has posted the Mayor's speech...

I pray that the new Administration does everything in its power to move our City forward.  Farewell to the Old Admin, and best wishes to the Brown Admin.   Tickled to hear Abel Harding is in the mix there too.  Major loss for Times Union though .

Cannot quite agree there Duval Dude.   I think Charlie Patton is pretty sharp.  But TU lost a valuable team member.  Not the end of the world.  The Brown Admin made a great choice.

Love the way he speaks; sounds like a Preacher. It appears that he is very positive as well as optimistic relative to the issues and stated goals towards making Jacksonville not only a better City, but a competitive and top tier City. He makes you believe that the job can be done, will get done, and makes you want to "work together" as a team towards meeting and exceeding the common stated goals. I hope, and pray that he is successful, and that my Jacksonville is successful as well. Keep plugging along "Metro Jax," and don't let up on the pressure, and keep monitoring the City Government's progress, regardless of who the Mayor is!

I'm not happy about the way he speaks.  Even if his speech content is good, the way he speaks is risky.  Some people just don't want to be yelled at or preached too.

I also love the way he speaks HU, it's called passion and the man is passionate about JACKSONVILLE. It's about time somebody is!

As for turning people off? Ever watch the great men of history speak?  "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." this famous speech by Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. wasn't given with smiles and peace signs. Another impassioned speaker said "...We want no Czechs.. .(to the Czech leader) The decision is in his hands! Peace or war! Either he accepts this offer and finally gives the Germans their freedom, or we will come and take this freedom ourselves! The world should take note that in four and a half years of war and in the long years of my political life there is one thing of which no one has ever been able to accuse me: I have never been a coward!" Yeah it was Adolph Hitler, but with millions spellbound no one would ever accuse him of being a bad speaker either.

Passion begets action.
