"Name the Entertainment district" contest...

Actionville is painfully corny, and will be irredeemably pathetic if the area isn't seething with people and goings-on. I think we should stick with a simple geographic or historical designation for now, because the people who live/shop/party/hang out there will inevitably come up with their own colorful nickname for the district anyway, if it deserves one.

Several people have already refered to names for the zone or district and...

Hey!

"The District" or "The Zone".

The District, sounds a bit more like it has a history, The Zone, sounds like I just woke up...

ON THE SIDEWALK.

There are a lot of places in Jacksonville more entertaining than East Bay.  At least to me.  So to refer to it as "The Entertainment District" is a little off-putting.

And +1 to DGDD!  Actionville is corny and a little overused.

Are the cat prints still on the street over there? Call it JagVille....never mind...I just gagged  ;)

+2 Jimmy! Actionville applied around here is an oxymoron anyway... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...
Besides it sound like a place where the Pierson Twins would be hustling used tires with a special markup for Yankees.

Makes me think of Action Jackson.  Who's old enough to remember that piece if cinematic crap?

JeffreyS

Well if we are already consigned to how sleepy and boring it is going to be then lets just call it suckville and forget about it.  Come on guys if you don't like Actionville fine do we have to say lets not name it anything that will only disappoint people because of how disappointing it is obviously going to be.

A little hubris hear please.

What about something like "The Northbank"? Northbank Nightlife District....

What about Jumpin' Jax - I saw that referenced in another thread earlier today. Maybe painfully corny as well.

I'd still say my suggestion of "Actionville" if you want something punny and albeit a bit corny. But it could be applicable to have a fun name if its a fun area. If we're wanting something a little more straightforward...how about "Baytown?" Since the entertainment district originated in the Bay Street area, we could use that as a meaningful reference.

Are there any historical names for the area?  The Florida theater is sort of the central point of the area...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I kinda like the sound of Bayside District Downtown or
Bayside District Northbank.

I like "The Core". It's simple, a location and doesn't over promise anything, but still sounds cool.

History? Well the city started at the tiny market under the giant bay tree, all surveys started at that point. Today we call it 'BAY AND MARKET'.

Bayside is close.

'Bay Tree District' hasn't been mentioned. Neither has 'Market District', or 'Founders... Wharf? Landing? District? Place?' All have some history in that area.

I tend to lean towards "The Core" or "Bayside".  Names like etown or actionville sound to gimmicky and uncool. 8)
