More Road Construction for the Southside



The Southside's traffic congestion is something that continues to clog this region's roadways on a daily basis.  Fortunately, a little help may be on the way.

looking at those pictures just reinforces my decision to stay away from the Southside as much as possible.

amen! The only time I can even drive through southside is after 9pm. JTB can be fun when there's no traffic on it

Alternate "B" makes the most sence to me.  May be the more expensive route but it seems a bit easier to follow and saves a good chunk of land along JTB between Philips and I95 for other uses.

I agree, Stephen.  Jax is really !@#$%^ in regard to mass transit at this point in time.  With oil prices being as high as they are with no projected turnaround taking place in the year future, residents are going to demand alternate ways to get to work and since Jax hasn't gotten past the scope or requirements stage since the inception of the idea over 10 years ago, there's little hope anything will be working and available in the next 5-10 years...even then it will be too little, too late.

Btw, I didn't see on any of the plans where they'll be a bike lane incorporated along Belfort, AC Skinner, Sailsbury or Phillips.  While some of the streets have had a bike lane, I can only hope that the FDOT will comply with the law to state-owned road construction, and that these lanes will be continued and will be added on the streets that didn't previously contain a bike lane.

This is exactly why i refuse to live on that side of the river!! I'll stick with the westside.

Hope you were not headed East on JTB about 6:00 pm yesterday! Some car moved to the side of the road near Kernan and expoded into a huge fireball! Police stopped all lanes and the firetrucks were dead stuck. With traffic stopped, I hoped they would have come in from Hodges and ran up the wrong side of the road...since it was empty anyway. Traffic backed up to I-95, spilled down the ramps, and was parked for what I'm told was an hour. Of course it could have been Roosevelt near NAS at 4:45 pm, or I-10 West at 5:30 pm or, the Buckman any time of the day or night, or, or... We NEED transit and we need it with it's own guideways. Also a city investment in promotion *( incentives) for 4 day work weeks over a 6 day period would do wonders. Nope, too smart for that, we all go to work at 8 m/l and come home at 5 m/l, every person, in every office, in every city, in every car, on every road...like how STUPID is that?

At the moment the Dames Point bridge is closed, which has an amazing effect on traffic. It took 30 minutes to drive from Downtown to Springfield.

Yeah, there apparently was a lady threatening to jump and the police had the entire bridge shut down.  I didn't hear what happened to her.
