Metrojacksonville is probably one of the largest collections of likely voters in the state.

I assume you mean proportionally as compared to other websites/blogs?

I agree with previous posters about Rick Mullaney's son.  Richie posted a very articulate statement about his father's campaign.
Although I voted for another candidate (Alvin Brown) in early voting, I can appreciate Richie's sincerity in hoping for a better city.
The only candidate whom I cannot stomach right now is Mike Hogan.  He lost me when he decided to go after those dirty liberals even though our city has not had a 'liberal' mayor or a 'liberal' government since who knows when.
However the race goes, I hope that we can begin to put an end to the good old boy system.

If Richie is only 15 years old as he says he is, then I am very impressed by his dialogue and his gumption to tackle an entire internet board head on.  I think it's great that he has engaged us on here, and I was pleased both times Rick Mullaney (the candidate) came on board to debate and discuss and answer questions.

The only two candidates I would even consider in this race are Mullaney and Moran.  What put Mullaney in a positive light for me was his extensive detailing of his trip to Kansas City and what he brought back in ideas from that trip (the kind of stuff that comes as common sense to most of us on this forum but doesn't even come to most people in Jacksonville at all).

Here is his article:

Let me just say that my dad likes metrojacksonville a lot and he wishes that he had the time to post here often during the campaign. He is very busy and he has tried to invite metrojacksonville to numerous campaign events. He posted about a year and a half ago about the history of consolidation and I encourage everyone to read that discussion.

On the Skyway, my dad is calling for a time-out instead of losing millions of dollars each year because for every dollar someone spends to ride it, it costs taxpayers $9. This relates to a whole restructuring of city finances that is explained in his 34-Point Plan. I enjoy the discussion on this topic.

Finally, if you consider talking about another candidate "negative campaigning" then I just disagree with you. My dad's campaign believes that there are 3 essential points that one must follow when contrasting candidates: 1) The contrast must be on an issue. 2) The contrast must be true. 3) The contrast cannot be personal.

My dad's ads have been strictly on the issues of taxing and spending. They are accurate and they are not personally attacking anyone's character or record. On the other hand, there is currently an ad on TV that distorts my dad's record. This ad is not on an issue in the campaign, it is personal, but most importantly it is not truthful. The debate at the University Club relates to this also. My dad was contrasting on issues while other candidates chose to falsely attack him personally. My dad truly believes Jacksonville deserves better.

Again, I thank Stephen and many of you for welcoming me into this forum and I really enjoy the discussion.

Apparently Mullaney's phone bankers have been calling the beaches community, telling strong Republicans that Moran is "pro-gay."  I'll say that she certainly is, but it's sad that Mullaney feels it is necessary to resort to this type of negative campaigning.  I suppose he is "anti-gay" and so I'm anti-him.

As another data point, konstant, I was told that Rick showed up at a big gay and lesbian bowling tournament at Jax Lanes Grove Park yesterday stumping for votes.  So... maybe he's trying to have his cake and eat it, too, on gay issues?  Can't be sure.  Too little, too late either way.

Couldn't agree more, that contract allowed the jags to keep several million, that should not have been allowed.  That's several million the city could've used. Oh and the trail ridge deal, boy, did the taxpayers get screwed on that extremely expensive deal, or what?! So kiddo, but Rick Mullaney, IMO, hasn't done a darn thing to help improve this city. My vote goes with Moran.

This is an area where professed conservatives too often contradict the concept of liberty and equal protection.

Conservatism should be known as the pro gay ism. Unfortunately we (conservatives at large) have made a deal with the devil of theocracy.

At the end of the day,

I think we would all sit down together and share a meal and laugh there and there. We are all friends regardless of our differences and opinions.

I would love to score a lunch with everyone of you in this thread including Richie!

I heard from an older friend of mine that an older friend of his has known Mullaney for many years and gives him a ringing endorsement, from a personal standpoint. These are both strongly fiscal conservative gentlemen.

I am still undecided. I know I'm not voting for Hogan, and that's about it...

Yes, I heard from Jerry that he was there.  Apparently, Jerry told Mullaney that it was great that he would show up to a gay bowling night and his eyes bugged out of his head.  He didn't know that's what it was.

Well then.  That's sort of a funny image.

I can not dispute the fact that Mr Mullaney is an intelligent person.............but do not consider him the one. Too many issue's where power or money appear to have diverted him from the public good!

Hey you know I already voted for Audrey Moran because she a has alot better chance to beat Hogan than anyone else and I love what she stands for and how honest shes been!
