Was at Hogans Creek today and noticed the brand new survey stakes. Someone is making it happen and sees the benefit of how Hogans Creek is a positive for Downtown.

How do you know they're not trying to pave over it?? ;)

A few people will be there Saturday morning making it happen. My goal is to tube down the creek with the outgoing tide at some point this summer.  Right now I'd hit shopping carts, broken bottles, chairs, and who knows what else.

where exactly were the survey stakes?

It appears to be the boarded up building that is close to the clearing next to the creek. Met Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and she noticed the survey stakes. You have to take it as a positive sign for the area.

Also the main cleanup site for the River Celebration will be at the area behind the old St. Lukes Hospital. There will be a roll up dumpster designated for that location. Spoke with Emily Lisska and appreciate the support from the Jacksonville Historical society. Capt Zissou wait until you see the access point under the FDOT overpass.

I hope you're saying that because it's so sparkling clean!  Is that clean up the 19th?? I'll get Channel 4 to get some footage and hopefully give the creek some publicity.  Noone, are you going to be around the creek Saturday morning?

and who knows what else.

Maybe some other people that are tubing?

I doubt it would be another party of tubers.  Hopefully you mean that I won't be tubing alone, and that I'll collide with friends.  I hope no urban outdoors-men have personal flotation devices.

BTW-  Is there anyway we can change our group name from 'Friends of Hogan's Creek' to 'Hogan's Heroes'??
I realize there could be some copyright issues involved, but I like it.

Its Facebook, I don't think copyright issues apply. It's its own country! Good name.

How many people are we looking at for Saturday? Should I inform Riverkeeper?

Capt Zissou,
This Sat. It will be a low tide. Pats on the back to you and anyone else if your still doing a cleanup. I'll get an inner tube and float down with you on the 5TH.
If you want to see McCoys Creek Sat. morning let me know and I'll bring the tandem.

March 19Th is the citywide River Celebration and Hogans Creek will be a location behind the Jacksonville Historical Society old St. Luke's Hospital. Its happening

Noone,

We went by the site for the March 19th clean up.  Holy Moly!  That's going to be difficult. Access there is tough and there's tons of stuff that needs to be gotten out.  Noone's Launch is actually starting to look pretty good.  Apparently the residents of the area call it Jumanji.

March 5th
This Saturday, come on out for another two hour cleanup 9-11pm.  We are slowly making our way towards the mouth of the river.  If we can get a 20 ft section cleaned this weekend, it will help greatly towards linking up to the cleanup site at Jax Historical Society on the 19th for the city-wide cleanup.

Who is going to make it happen with us on Saturday???

dougskiles

I can't make the 5th, but I will be there for the 19th cleanup.

I am down to help again. Are we starting at the launch again or at the spot Captian is talking about above?
