Billy, we'll get together and Make it Happen. Are you going to make it for the citywide River Celebration cleanup on the 19Th? Your kayak would definately be an asset.

Was at Hogans Creek today and noticed the brand new survey stakes. Someone is making it happen and sees the benefit of how Hogans Creek is a positive for Downtown.

Went by an hour ago and the building is comepletely gone. Asked someone and they said over the weekend. She-Clown any idea? Miss Fix-It? Lake? That building looked solid. Now just one left.

Its directly across the street from the Fire Station and diagonal to the Florida Dept of Law Enforcement building. You know the Fire Dept is there 24 hours. I saw plumbers there a while back. I thought they were moving forward and opening up the building.

Springfield? No worries? I have no idea what is involved in a demolition but it is just totaly gone. Do you need a permit? Is JEA involved to remove the power lines?

I think its a shame. Miss Fixit or Lake not sure which thread its on but SLG owns the property. Did they own the house too? Who knows what the plan is for that property?

CityLife

Noone, that area isn't part of Historic Springfield.

Which building was it?

Ocklawaha

Can someone give us a street corner? Which building? NE, SW, ETC.? Was it the old house next to where the Kayaks were put in?

It was the concrete building that was closest to the creek. I know I've got some pictures of the building somewhere. It was a two story. I looked at it where you could live on the top floor and rent kayaks on the bottom. That's how I looked at it.  An urban zoning opportunity.

Lately I've been taking everyone kayaking behind the old St. Lukes hospital. You can access that location 24/7 doesn't matter if its a low or high tide. Better location.
City Life if you get a chance go down and see if that is an original street car pole next to the old railroad ties behind St. Lukes.

I know that may not be part of Historic Springfield but if your a resident of Dist.7 I'd be saying WTF
(Wheres The Fire).

billy

It is (was) a contemporary, small structure?
I put in there before.
I think the tracks behind St. Lukes were one of the two lines headed to the waterfront.

Anybody want to Make it Happen this morning. 721-3321 I'm serious. I'll bring the tandem.

Noone

I'll be kayaking and doing a cleanup in the morning behind the 2Nd most important Waterfront Public Access location in the Core Exchange District.  And that will be behind the Casket company and old St. Lukes Hospital.

The Aug 31 Waterways FIND 2 1/2 hour meeting is the primary motivation of why I'll be there tomorrow and pulling out that shopping cart that the Capt, Field and PeeJayEss saw just south of the FDOT overpass. I'll give it my best shot.

Downtown Watercraft activity is ready to explode. HUGE announcements will be coming soon. Anyone want to join me in an ACA (American Canoe Association) class 9/17 and 18?

Its late and I'll post when I'm loaded up. I'll bring an extra kayak. Jacksonville.....Lets Make it Happen.

Loaded up and I have a tandem and a single. Will be there in less than a 1/2 hour. I'll be parked in the van down by the river close to the yet still unidentifiable abandoned welding project, Casket factory advertising pole, Railroad yard light pole, or street car trolley pole that may be the only still remaining example. Then again maybe not.

Everyone, have a great weekend.

I'm back and almost unloaded. Another fantastic time on an Urban Waterway Destination in our Core Exchange District within our current Jacksonville Overlay Zoning District 2003-627 and before a yet to be voted on total government takeover by a yet newly created DIA, DDA, DEA, or in _ _ _ Authority.

Who's next?

Aug. 24 Board meeting. Redman now show. Presentation on one issue.
Aug. 31 Waterways FIND committee meeting Wilson and Redman present. Huge variation in presentations. Major  announcements.  2011-560 will be in Waterways. Lets all see if it is followed through.

I'll report more on the paddle and cleanup later.

Noone

Yesterday at Hogans Creek was a paddle from a launch site that has the potential to be the 2Nd  picture post card behind the number 1 picture post card that would be our PROMISED 680' Downtown Public Pier for the city of Jacksonville.

Positive cleanup then it was time for fun. Put in the single. When I arrived about 9:15 it was just the last of the outgoing tide. There is something about being part of our 310 mile St. Johns River our American Heritage River and when the flow of the river catches that period of just slack tide and then reverses itself you are standing on the bank and just witnessing something that is very special. Subtle yet Powerful.

That was my cue to now say lets have some fun. The paddle out going against the incoming tide was subtle because it has just turned. Beautiful sky light breeze and just nobody around in this dead zone. The shopping cart depth meter chart is showing both wheels fully exposed. Going through the Maxwell House plant its low tide and a stark contrast to the last paddle where the parking lot was flooded and we had spotted a jellyfish thanks to Hurricane Irene. I find a labled brick from Louisiana along the bank. Just interesting.

The bird life is active. Herons are literally just picking away at the baitfish that are now entering the filled exposed flats that are there during a low tide. I saw the plover darting between the concrete chunks and am just amazed at his flight which is an accelerated rate above the water in contrast to the herons who seem to jump in the air and have to gather themselves before there flight is a picture of beauty.

In the kayak I just hovered above the flats and was able to clean some of the visual debris that can be seen from the Bay St. Bridge. After loading my kayak with garbage I paddle out to the river. Popping out into the St. Johns there is a big boat heading south.

The paddle back in is swift coming in with the tide. The shopping cart depth meter chart is showing one wheel exposed and the water up to the bottom of the other. The tire is still in the Mulberry tree. What a productive two hours. Work and Fun.
