QuoteMcCown did excellent in the preseason. I was so pissed when he got hurt.

Disagree.  McCown is "just a guy"... like Garrard... a backup.  Edwards may not be much better but has had limited success as a starter.  Regardless... none of those three is what the Jags need to move forward.  My prediction is the Jags draft a QB in the first or second round and put Garrard on notice that his days are numbered.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

This team still needs a real QB, although defense is still the major concern. DG will get 8-8 at best. Wow DG basically gift wrap that win for the Skins although the entire team really played poorly from the kick off. I hope we can finish with a winning season, but its time to end the DG experiment. We may have to suffer one more two at best with DG, but its time to get a real QB if were serious about making a real run for the division and playoffs.

Garrard takes the majority of criticism because he's the quarterback... while he does make poor decisions... he was also under duress the entire game and for most of the season... and all of last season. With good blocking he's been almost masterful and with poor blocking he's made plays with his legs. He makes bad reads and sometimes holds the ball too long.... but it's short sighted to blame him for the loss, the team record and missing the post season.

I semi-disagree.  And my regurgitation of info is the part of the reason that we had a completely suprising good year.  We are two years into rebuilding and don't have a Brady / Manning to make up the difference.  GMGene will keep building this franchise through the draft.  He will only draft a QB in the first round or three if they are still the best players on his draft board.  Don't be suprised to see us draft another big man in the first round again, whether it's O-Line or D-Line - you witness first hand how the right side of the line started collapsing after Britton went down, and we didn't have someone there to fix it.  What happens if Knighton gets hurt?

From what I've seen, I have faith that next year will be better than this one as will many years to come, but don't get your heart set on a new QB, unless he sees the one that he wants - meaning on top of his draft board.

My prediction is we don't take a QB before the 4th round.  My guess is he didn't pick Edwards to be the back-up as much as the replacement when training camp starts - there's going to be a battle between him and Garrard.  McCown, not as much - he'll be released as the draft nears.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I'm not sure you need to put a QB (north of 30) on notice that his days are numbered.

Drafting a QB early virtually requires that Garrards days would be numbered.  Garrard would likely start for most the year... or be replaced earlier if he does not perform... or later if he does...

An example would be Tebow... 1st rounder rode the bench for most the season.  Orton got hurt yet is having a pretty good season.  Orton could be playing... but isnt.

Another would be Aaron Rodgers... 1st rounder sat on the bench two years before getting his shot.

I said the whole team played poorly. DG has thrown 2 int both when the recever was wide open. Colts game now this one. Even though the whole team played badly DG mistakes really did cost us this game. Its time to move on now, find a real QB not a game manager. If the Jags fall behind more than two TDs its lights out if DG is the QB. He may be the best we have right now, but his replacement needs to be on the way if he's the BAP when the Jags are up on the board to draft.

if this happens don't expect sell outs next year. trent edwards as the starter?? good god, might as well pack in next year and look forward to 2012

What I mean is - I'm sure he knows that drafting a quarterback is imminent and that at 32 years old his "days are numbered".

I'm stumped on the confindence in Edwards too. He was cut by the Bills after a terrible first few years. The only thing he's got on Garrard is age... and if he was better - he'd be starting already.

He was insurance as a backup when McCown went down... then he got himself injured after playing just over a quarter in the MNF game.

I agree Keith but.....Where are we going to find a QB?  To be honest, any quarter back we draft is going to be an experiment. And being that were a small market, we do have the funds to draft a Michael Vick type of QB. I guess we have to keep our fingers crossed and pray for an miracle. Garrad has done good this year in my opinion, however his turnovers have become a huge issue. HUGE. We have lost several games because of that. So Im at a lost on the situation. Well just see what happens.

i think the jags have to go qb in the first 2 rounds. i think the fans will demand this, if not it could be a very shaky year next year

Tom Brady was picked in the 7th round...  :o :D

I met with the Jags a couple weeks ago about an opportunity to join the Champions Club. During the presentation they spoke about how strong tickets sales have been... not for just this season but next season and the 2012 season. Most people are renewing through the 20-20 / 30-30 package and the team is way ahead of pace in terms of sales.

A quote in the Ask Vic column today sums it up - "As Bill Polian once said, if you listen to the fans, you’ll end up sitting with them."
