The last I heard they were supposed to be done in October - but they pretty obviously won't even be done this month now. Anyone hear of any updates? Anyone involved in any way? Looks like the outside deck will be pretty cool - and are they putting a bar that opens to the outside where those side windows used to be?

Hasn't been much talk on the San Marco board lately so I thought I'd stir something up!

I don't totally understand the outside deck.  It looks too small to seat anybody for food.  Also, what is that round concrete thing??  Is that going to be a fire pit??  It will be a great addition to that area, i'm just not sure they maximized the potential for the outdoor space.

That round thing is supposed to be some sort of fountain I think. The deck doesn't look that big but I'm thinking that entire outdoor slab and the deck are supposed to seat people. I'm interested to see how it will turn out...

Yep it's a fire pit. A pretty nice addition to the bar and grill format I thought. Hurricane's in San Marco has been fairly packed since it's recent opening. They're having the official grand opening tonight starting at 5.

The outside patio is probably one of the better casual dining spots in town, the traffic whizzing by on Hendricks, the library across the street and the skyline in the background creates a nice ambiance.

San Marco doesn't really have a spot like this so it's really a great addition. Just becareful with ordering the "import" beers though. They were charging 6 bucks a pop for Sweetwater. Your regular brews are about half that.

Yes beers were definitely pricey and while the outside is nice, it definitely should have had more seating if they want this to be a serious competitor to a sports bar. Food and wings were good. If you go for lunch be prepared to wait, hopefully these are growing pains, but we waiting 15 to get in at least 20 minutes for our food.

Most of the Hurricane grills aren't terribly large. I know the one on 17 has limited seating as well...haha maybe they're going for the 13 gypsies take, but on chicken wings.

As for the prices; people simply wont pay that much for a beer, just ask O'Brothers. They had to lower their drink prices.

Overstreet

Their model seems to be small dining and packed with people. The one on San Jose is usually busy.

Hurricane is also not trying to compete wth true sports bars....after all, the place has less than 10 TVs

David

^ That's what I like about it. The sneakers off 9A and Baymeadows is the Super Wal-Mart of sportsbars.

Isn't a sports bar potentially any place with a roof, a pour license and more than one TV?

not my definition...for me, they must have enough TVs and satellite channels to show all Sunday 1pm NFL games (means min. 10)....and they must have at least the NFL, College Football, and MLB packages

Ok we tried to give them a second chance its been a month but the serving times are still outrageous 40 minutes to get two burgers and the waitress was kind of rude. Food was still good but wait time is a killer and it wasn't as busy as the last time i was there.

I tried the San Marco location last month (a party of three), service was fine and the waitress we had was friendly.

We've been to the San Marco location twice - once on a Saturday to watch a football game and once during the week at lunch.  Both times the service and food were good.  We were able to watch a 1-AA football playoff game and really enjoyed the fish dip appetizer.  Burgers were large and tasty.  My only complaint was that the beer was too expensive!
