Mike Hogan Destruction Eruption!

Two things:

I posted a picture and TURNED in graffti on Ionia up by first st, it is CRIPS tagging. Still there for the world to see, no tag. All I can say is WTF???? I guess gang graffti is acceptable?

Also when I moved here in 2005 I certainly was told the dilapidated and abandoned homes would be torn down, I was also told a Starbucks was going in right down the street from me on 8th and Pearl (it is even in my RE contract believe it or not!)

being from NOLA I pitched a fit about old homes being torn down, and then the story changed. Whatever to sell a home I guess.

those pictures are the saddest things i've seen in a while.

Painting over it. This is hilarious to me for all the wrong reasons.

Amazing how this gets cited as graffiti but those giant ugly stickers all over Downtown get a pass.

Jacksonville. Are you misguided or just insane?

KuroiKetsunoHana

goddamn it, stephen, i hate it when you're right.

I'm inclined to agree that it's just a means in which to try and minimize the efforts and determination of a group of residents hellbent on saving these houses. It's sad when people want to try and do that...but this group is stronger than they realize, and determination for a good cause is a powerful tool

The purpose of the hearts was to draw attention to the house.  That it certainly did.  People are showing interest in it and with any luck a new owner may take it on.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether the boards are white or black, or have hearts on them.  All that matters is that the houses are saved.

Springfielder

we agree on that, but sorry....that was rather petty of code enforcement to cite the owner with graffiti and threaten to fine them. The city should be pleased that someone's out there doing their job, by boarding and securing properties instead of trying to thwart their efforts.

I love Jacksonville, I really do.  But sometimes I just wonder...

Ah shucks, if JACKSONVILLE were PERFECT we'd all be picking the teeth out of the rules in Atlanta...

As for the hearts and the SOS project, since Bill is on board with historic preservation, I'm wondering if the SOS AND HEARTS could be registered with the city as a permanent sort of trademark. Get the logos before the Council and get a ruling on this (and several other designs), once it's law even the dumbest enforcement officer would have to surrender to the will of the neighborhood.

Hell it's not just Jacksonville, I'm still trying to teach FDOT how to spell O-C-K-L-A-W-A-H-A, just drive over the bridges on Hwy 19 or Eureka and see for yourselves.

Don't sweat it, the green signs are misspelled too.

The whole damn state is crazy!

Well, see, that's what the city gets for using a native name instead of naming itself after someone who never once set foot in it, but was easier to spell, like Jacksonville did.  LOL

I for one love my new red heart someone left on my porch for me- it is now hanging proudly for all to see on the front porch! I want to make a real big one, so you can see it from a two locks away.... maybe even paint one on my crazy long fence that runs down Ionia?!

You are so naughty uptowngirl!  You know that a big heart will ALWAYS get you in trouble :)
