Just read on the news4jax site that 2 riders in the Memorial Day ride were stabbed by a motorist on or near Kent campus. I know a lot of these riders. Does anyone have information on what happened?

Charles Hunter

Nothing more than what is on the website - at least they've arrested the motorist (the cyclists gave cops a tag number).

Thank you, Stephen. I agree with reednavy, it is very sad and disturbing.

Disturbing indeed. It's also interesting (and good) that the father of the guy who did the stabbing, called and told police where to find his son.

Let's hope the hospital doesn't put them in the same room.

QuoteHe told police he retrieved a pocket knife and "went to town," according to a police report.

Probably not the best statement to make from a legal perspective...

The news stories have conflicting information in them. In one  story, the truck side mirror hit one of the cyclists who yelled at the driver. The driver then followed the cyclists to Kent campus. http://www.news4jax.com/news/23753562/detail.html

According to this story, it seems that cyclist brushed against the driver at Kent campus. Hard to call that a "road rage" incident. It would be nice to have an official version.

reednavy

I think the mirror hit is the most likely.

Dog Walker

Saw in another forum where someone had looked up this guys record that he has had a whole bunch of driving violations and a couple of misdemeanor convictions just in the last two years.

HEARSAY ALERT!!!

Can anyone confirm this?

I want to ride my bike more but there is so much hostility towards bicyclists in this town. The right to drive is so pervasive that it endangers the lives of pedestrians and cyclists alike. We are forced into our cars to gaurd ourselves from entitled and enraged motorists. God save the bicyclists!

One thing I find making it quite dangerous to ride lately is the Fact that NO-ONE uses turn signals any more.
You know who you are people.

The lever is up on the steering wheel for a good reason. ::) it's not optional or a courtesy...it's a law.
