By FITSNews || One of the nation’s leading anti-gay crusaders and a “distinguished professor” at the University of South Carolina was caught with a “rent boy” at Miami International Airport after returning from a 10-day trip to Europe last month.

A “rent boy” is a homosexual escort, in case you were wondering.  In fact, the website Rentboy.com is where Dr. George Rekers found his male escort for this European jaunt, according to the Miami New Times, which broke the story Tuesday.

Originally, Rekers â€" a Baptist minister, co-founder of the Family Research Council and leading scholar of the Christian conservative movement â€" claimed that he had hired his “rent boy” for the purpose of carrying his luggage and that he didn’t discover until half-way through the trip that the young man, “Lucien,” was a homosexual.

Rekers was singing a different tune to a pro-gay blog, though.  According to his remarks there, the whole thing was part of his ongoing ministry:

“I have spent much time as a mental health professional and as a Christian minister helping and lovingly caring for people identifying themselves as ‘gay.’ My hero is Jesus Christ who loves even the culturally despised people, including sexual sinners and prostitutes. Like Jesus Christ, I deliberately spend time with sinners with the loving goal to try to help them.

“Like John the Baptist and Jesus, I have a loving Christian ministry to homosexuals and prostitutes in which I share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them (see I Corinthians 6:8-11). Contrary to false gossip, innuendo, and slander about me, I do not in any way ‘hate’ homosexuals, but I seek to lovingly share two types of messages to them, as I did with the young man called ‘Lucien’ in the news story: [1] It is possible to cease homosexual practices to avoid the unacceptable health risks associated with that behavior, and [2] the most important decision one can make is to establish a relationship with God for all eternity by trusting in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins, including homosexual sins. If you talk with my travel assistant that the story called ‘Lucien,’ you will find I spent a great deal of time sharing scientific information on the desirability of abandoning homosexual intercourse, and I shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him in great detail.”

Sheesh …

USC spokeswoman Margaret Lamb told WACH TV 57 (Columbia, S.C. -FOX) that Rekers resigned from USC in 2005, but his bio is still featured on the University website, which means that Thursday is going to be a really, really bad day for USC’s team of taxpayer-funded lobbyists.

Seriously, every Bible thumper in the S.C. General Assembly is going to want to know all about this situation … and it there’s one thing the S.C. General Assembly has plenty of, it’s Bible thumpers.
