Hi all, My name is Amy and I'm a 32 year old single professional from Atlanta new to Jax last week. I know absolutely no one except for my brother's family and would welcome suggestions for fun things to do and invites for drinks or coffee :) I live in San Marco and work downtown and am trying to get to know both areas.

re: contacting our representatives regarding key legislative issues, can someone please advise me how to determine my district?

Thanks!

In the middle of the page there is a legislator zip+4 lookup.  All you need is your zip +4 and it's right there.

Welcome to Jacksonville and to the forum.  Glad to have you!

welcome Amy! We first need to know what you like to do for "fun". What type of things do you like to do?

Welcome to Jax. This website is a great resource if you are looking for good restaurants and things to do in town.

Hey Duvaldude08. I'm usually relatively low key, but as that's not a great way to meet people, I'm looking to branch out. I like to read, enjoy good food and drink, talk about things great and small, hang out, see live music in cool, non mosh-like environments. I went and saw Idina Menzel with the Jax symphony this weekend and that was a great time. Now that I'm in a good town for it, I'm looking forward to getting to know the beach/river scene and just spending more time outdoors in general.

Thanks for asking :)

I second this.

Sounds like you should definitely make a point of going to RAM on Saturday, Art Walk next Wednesday, and the next scheduled Metrojacksonville Pubcrawl!  Welcome.

Welcome Amy!

There are many groups in town that are good for meeting folks....Jax Scene, Thursday Night Drinking Club, and several of the Rotary clubs come to mind.

Another good one is IMPACTjax, which is the young professional arm of the Chamber of Commerce....they hold social, community service, political, and professional development events monthly....I am a member and it is great....see the website below

Finally, MetroJacksonville holds a public "meeting" every Tuesday evening (starts around 6pm) at 3 Layers coffee shop in Springfield....come out and meet the gang.

Not at HOLA anymore? I've been meaning to come out for, uhhh, 6 months now. Maybe I'll finally swing by since I'm posting about it.

Flogging Molly is performing at the Florida Theatre Sat night.  If you're a smoker, Sherwood's is a nice watering hole in San Marco.  If you're not, try Local's.

We're heading up to happy hour on top of the Bank of America tower next Wednesday to enjoy the view and have a drink or two before heading to Art Walk downtown next Wednesday.  If you're looking for something to do, Art Walk is a blast and you'll enjoy some amazing views of our city 30+ floors up!

BTW, welcome to the Bold New City of the South :)

Welcome Amy!  You've already stumbled onto a great resource here a MetroJax.  Many great suggestions have already been made: RAM every Saturday, Art Walk next Wednesday.  This weekend there's also the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival in St. Augustine (http://www.gamblerogersfest.com) along with the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach (http://www.shrimpfestival.com) and the weather should be great.  One of the secrets about Jacksonville: there's always more going on than you think, you just have to look a little harder to find out what's going on.

Wear a helmet & bring a camera -- you never know what type of trouble the boys will get into next. ;D

It is a GREAT way to spend a Tuesday night.
