Close!  The Pope (John Paul I) died in 1978.

John Paul II was shot in an attempted assassination, but survived.

My husband, an avid Liverpool fan, is off to find Charles a new wife! (He'll beg forgiveness later, but says the Pope would understand as Liverpool has had a rough year).

Since Newcastle wasn't in Premier League this year, unlike their close rival Sunderland, it's hard to say.  We'll see next season.
