QuoteAlert Notification #1

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has contacted your Neighborhood Watch and advised us of the following:

What: 3 robberies occurred over this past weekend in the Riverside area. The victims were approached from behind and either knocked to the ground or struck in the head. In one instance the victim was threatened with a knife.

Who: Suspects were described as three or four young black males driving a white Jeep Cherokee. Possible damage to (or dent in) the rear bumper of the vehicle. The age of the vehicle is unknown. Note that the Jeep “Cherokee” is the model of Jeep that looks like an SUV. It should not be confused with the smaller two-door model known as a “Wrangler”.

When & Where:

·        Saturday, April 17th, 2010 in the 1100 block of Acosta Street

·        Saturday, April 17th, 2010 in the 2700 block of Post Street

          ·        Sunday, April 18th, 2010 in the 700 block of King Street

BOLO Alert: Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for a white Jeep Cherokee with black male occupants. If you see this vehicle, immediately call police at 630-0500 and report its location.

You can help prevent crime by reporting all suspicious activity. If you see anyone who is behaving suspiciously you should immediately call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 630-0500. If you see a crime in progress, or if you reasonably believe that a crime is about to be committed, you should call 911.

Alert Notification #2

Please be aware that a late model silver or gray Dodge king-cab pick-up up truck (see attached security camera image) was recently used to steel several items from businesses in Riverside on Sunday evening (April 18th, 2010) Surveillance photos (see the attached) show that two white males used this truck in the theft of a large, 2-whell blue wheelbarrow and extension ladder from behind City Cycle (corner of Park and King). The thieves cut through a cable that secured these items. Also stolen from behind the Whiteway Building was an awning belonging to The Resident Newspaper. The photo shows the truck to be laden with other items that may have also been stolen.

If you see this truck in the area please record the license tag number and call the JSO at 630-0500.

Good to know, explains why JSO was all over the neighborhood Sunday.

The prototype RAP Neighborhood watch is beginning to hit its stride and has been active enough to get regular updates and coordination from JSO.

Kudos to Robin Lumb and Jeremiah Russell who are heading the effort.

How can we get involved in the watch?

Great to know about these AFTER they happen. Was anyone ever caught for the assault, battery, and rape of the woman in Riverside many months ago? An update would be nice.

Hard to know about them BEFORE they happen.

An arrest in that case was in the TU a few days ago.  I'll try to find it and post it here.  Good work by JSO.

Park and King, Five Points and The Shoppes of Avondale. Since I live there I know this:
YOU NEVER SEE COPS ON PATROL IN THOSE THREE AREAS!!!!!!!.  One patrol car or two guys on bikes
could virtually eliminate this type of thing. Those areas are practically adjacent to one another. How many more robberies have to occur before JSO actually does some PREVENTATIVE work in those areas??????????????

The District we are in extends from the river and I-95 to the county line by Orange Park and almost to 301 on the west.  On any shift, there are about twelve JSO officers to cover this area.  They are pretty thin on the ground.  The crime rate in the areas you mentioned is actually very low and I think they concentrate a bit more of the preventative efforts in the areas of the zone where there is more.

NN or one of the other LEO's on this forum can correct me if I am mistaken, but I think we have fewer police officers for our population than most other large cities in Florida.

I was at the King and Post St area Friday night between 11-12 and heard what seemed to be four gun shots. I never saw any news on this so I am not sure what happened. However, with more people in that area late at night due to Kickbacks, Walkers, Park Place, and now The Lofts, I would appreciate more of a Police presence for security.

I also would like more information on a Riverside neighborhood watch. I recently moved to Post St, near King, and with this alert and the ATM robbery, I want to help however I can.

The Riverside Neighborhood Watch is growing and defining itself slowly and hopefully the boundaries will widen into Avondale also.
I still cant stress enough to the Members to please ACTUALLY GET OUTSIDE! .
C'mon folks..spend an hour on your nice front porch!!!
I bike patrol almost daily, and I still see everyone hiding inside...this won't help...(you know who you are ;))
The row of houses behind First Guaranty bank could watch a HUGE swath of King street if they joined forces..most of them have second floor patios. The late night Joints could also put a voluntary lookout (armed?) nearby when their patrons are heading for parked cars in dark lots.

Front porch sitters have to be the greatest deterrent to crime in a neighborhood that can exist.  Love mine and say hello to everybody that passes by.  "Hi there! (and I see you.)

You Sir are HIGHLY visible to say the least.  Your K9 Patrol is quite effective. ;D

Did anyone find the link to the arrest? I scoured the internet and couldn't find anything. I live a few blocks from that area, and have been hoping there would be a break in the case.

Ugh.. and the hits keep on coming.. if you see a lot of police around, you can thank my girlfriend's lovely neighbor's roommate. He beat her, choked her, and cut off her finger last night. Luckily they arrested him on 4 felony counts. But is friends may be stirring around.

We were asleep last night and didn't hear a thing. Weird.

BRB, gonna hole up in my apartment with the Remington 870 express.

MT, I think we are talking about two different cases.  There has been no arrest in the case of the woman who was knocked off her bicycle near the Publix and raped by several young men.  There was an arrest in the case of the older woman who was robbed and raped in a home invasion.
