Anyone know anything about "The Lucerne". Looks like a pretty cool building, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it?
It's at the corner of Park and Copeland, about 2 blocks from five points. Big, green building

Are you wondering about the history of it, or living there?

History, or anything really. I know they have apartments for rent. I already have a place, but I have a friend looking who used to live in Charleston, SC, and wants something both "nice" and "historic"

Thanks!

The Compound

The Lucerne was built in 1924 and is perhaps Riverside’s most one-of-a-kind apartment building.  The entire 3 story building has been carefully restored by the current owner who purchased it in 2001.  All twelve apartments are one bedroom, and are approximately 725 sq. ft., except for Units # 4, #8 and #12 which are approximately 775 sq. ft.  Key amenities include:  washer/dryer hookups, all new phone/CATV/satellite dish wiring, new appliances & fixtures, new blinds, central HVAC, refinished hardwood floors, and new kitchen cabinets.  Unique features include a “sunroom” in each apartment, the unique floorplan with “crank-out” windows throughout, original fire escapes, and the original trash chutes (non-functioning).  Special motion activated security lighting has been added both inside and outside the building, as well as a front door entry system.  Ample parking is provided in the covered spaces on the adjacent lot, on the parking pad and in front of the building.

I have a friend that lives there now, and another who moved out right before the end of the year. They are nice inside, and very spacious. I have never heard of any complaints from either of them. Not sure if your friend is concerned about safety, but both of them were single females living there, and both of them said they felt very safe there.

What are the rental rates at the Lucerne?

Dog Walker

There are a large number of small, architecturally unique apartment buildings in Riverside.  The Lucerne is one of the best examples.  Some, such as the St. Francis on Oak and Barrs have been converted to condos, but all of them are more homelike and less impersonal than the big new apartment complexes in the suburbs.

These small apartments, duplexs and quads fit into the residential character of the neighborhood perfectly.
When all else fails hug the dog.

Traditions Realty has a unit listed for $775 a month. This is one of the larger units, and includes gas and hotwater. The friends I have/had in there signed their leases last year and I believe their rate is $725 a month.

Here is a link to the listing.
