Joe's gift to me this Valentine's Day was a visit to the brand new event, "Gospel Brunch" at the corner of 8th and Main.  Carl, of Carl's Main Street Cafe, is the cook so you know the food is good:  greens, mac and cheese, stew beef and gravy over rice, cornbread, bread pudding, chicken, fried and baked, peach cobbler, and iced tea so sweet and good it could be served for dessert.

This week's gospel singer is out of Georgia, she belted out a few favorites of mine and a couple of songs I hadn't heard before.  The coordinators of the event sang backup for a song or two.

There are hopes that this event will take off, bringing local and national gospel singing to Springfield.  There will be two shows each Sunday.  One at 12:00, and one at 3:00.  Dinner is buffet style, hearty, fattening, and the real deal, here.  Don't think you can get a salad or a wrap.

Cost is $30 per person.  Kids are less.  The show and meal probably won't start on time (today's didn't, but it was well worth the wait.)

Light for the 12:00.  I think Carl expected more for the 3:00 show.

The coordinator of this event used to do this same Gospel Brunch idea in Harlem in the 80s.

Wow; I'll have to check that out next time I'm in "Big Jax." This is my cup of tea.
