QuoteJacksonville No. 27 in foreclosure rate

A 39 percent increase in the number of properties in foreclosure pushed the Jacksonville metro area to No. 27 among the biggest cities in the U.S. in 2007.

There were 15,149 properties that entered some stage of foreclosure last year, representing 1.8 percent of the local market. That rate didn't even put Jacksonville in the top five in Florida.

Miami had the highest rate, where the more than 51,000 properties entering foreclosure last year was up 106 percent, ranking the city eighth in the country. Fort Lauderdale was No. 10, Orlando was No. 20, Tampa was No. 23 and Sarasota was No. 24.
