Miami is on the verge of getting a long term sponser....

QuoteSun Life Financial, a Canadian-based financial services company, is in serious discussions with the Dolphins about acquiring naming rights to Land Shark Stadium, two sources said Wednesday.

One source said talks are advanced and an announcement could come after the holidays, though both sources stopped short of calling it definite.

A Sun Life representative declined to comment, and the Dolphins declined to discuss the likelihood of the stadium becoming ``Sun Life Stadium.'' Team chief executive officer Mike Dee said, in a statement, ``We expect to have a formal announcement later in January regarding the stadium's name for the Pro Bowl, Super Bowl and beyond.''

Ya know, "JACKSONVILLE AMTRAK STADIUM," has a ring to it! It would also send Tallahassee and the Nation a message!  Maybe we should give them a nudge.

Yet, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins & Tampa Bay Rays aren't desperate for a big sponsor.

Hmmm.

The Rays play in Tropicana Field.

I don't like the "Landshark Stadium" name anyway; Sun Life Financial sounds a lot better.  Landshark sounds like you're about to get eaten by sharks while you're attending a Dolphins game.

I think one of our local banks should step up.  VyStar and EverBank are two prominent banks that are expanding VERY fast.

"The Market Street location, which opened in 1981.........."

Y'all may love Publix and that's OK. But remember Winn Dixie has been down town since 1981. They hung in there when others would have pulled out. You don't see Publix moving to the area. Riverside was a recent development. San Marco was a recent plan that didn't happen.

Publix owns the land in San Marco. They just need to be able to sell the  condos attached in order to get the project going.

Word on the street is that Everbank will be the stadium sponsor for 2010.
