Chestnuts

Captain Zissou

I'm actually kind of surprised this thread hasn't degraded into something less civil.  I feel like it's teetering right on the edge.

Why, Cap??  Are we annoying people by being polite, or by the length of a post about chestnuts?  (I love to learn new info, myself, the more trivial the better).  Never know when I might try to cook up a mess o' chestnuts and amaze my friends (not to mention myself).

Dog Walker

Sandy, he's being sarcastic or expressing pleased amazement since many of the threads on MJ get quite heated at times.  Here, the only thing we want to heat is chestnuts!  LOL!

Where do the chestnuts come from?  The American chestnut tree is basically extinct.
Somewhere other than America?

Well Duh ;)

Ernest Street

Back in the early 90's...after Thanksgiving, EPCOT Center used to position cast iron smoker grills all around the World Lagoon...with Chestnut Chef and roast chestnuts for sale in front of the "Guests".
They would put them into paper cones and had plain and cinnamon spiced also...I wonder if they still do this. Anyone?

Cricket

There are few topics more trivial than chestnuts ... well, maybe boiled peanuts ... but there's no harm in taking a breather from all the MJ torments like shootings and sprawl and boomtown pipedreams and Jaguar frustrations.
Plus, it's Christmas, folks!
"If we bring not the good courage of minds covetous of truth, and truth only, prepared to hear all things, and decide upon all things, according to evidence, we should do more wisely to sit down contented in ignorance, than to bestir ourselves only to reap disappointment."

Dog Walker

Hey now!  Good food is NEVER a trivial topic! ;D

Chestnuts roasting over an open fire!

Try maybe Native Sun Natural food market place, or Whole Food market off San Jose.

I always thought that was supposed to be "Chipmunks roasting over an open fire...?"

Every time I see this thread, I'm tempted to post something about chinnuts.

I'm not gonna do it.

:D  oh boy....Hey Captain, the dogs are out!

I was at Fresh Market yesterday and they had bags of them there. When it gets a littled colder I'll probably buy a bag and try to roast them over the firepit.

I now want to know what chipmunk taste like, especially the Alvin variety, as their recent movies have revoked their right to live.  They're dinner now.

My ex-laws had chestnut trees in South Carolina. The spines on the husk of the nut were prickley and gloves were suggested. They didn't come out of the shell/hull very easily either.  Like coconuts and wallnuts they have a husk over the real nut.

Of course they were much easier than the Black Walnut they had growing on the property.  I think you could use black wallnuts as cannon balls.

I got some chestnuts.... XD
