So I reported an unsecure building that is being frequented by homeless to COJ.  The guy comes out and says that he can't do anything unless he can see that the building is unsecure from the street................He can't  tresspass on the property.....So I ask, what do you do if they are entering through the side or the rear of the property that you can't see from the street???  He shrugged his shoulders and said nothing............  Thanks COJ!!!! you suck!

yes, you can report on the Ecare page.

I wanted to add, that I hope you got the person's name that you spoke with, because they can most certainly do something about an unsecured property. Can't trespass...that's crap...I see the inspectors wandering onto abandoned properties all of the time....they walk around, taking photos and writing their notes.

When you know some homeless guys are in the house, you can also call JSO 630-0500 and report a break in.

Did you get the name/department of the COJ guy you talked to?  You can report that on ECARE too.  Is there an alley behind the house?  He could have gone back there to see the house unsecured.

Sure don't blame you for being frosted!

Contact your city council person. If they care, they will assist you. Heck, you may even get a call from the Sherriff.

If the house/building is a nuisance property, you can go online at coj.net, and put in a case number to Code Enforcement. I don't know if that is what you did, but Code Enforcement can start the process against the owner, and may eventually condemn the property and allow for it to be torn down.

Our council member is Gafney....good luck with having his office do much...but it's worth a try. I just never had much action whenever I reported something like that to his office. You may also want to call the spar office and tell them.

Yeah, mine is Corrigan, a complete numnuts of a council person, in my experience. Overton was there before him, great guy, took your calls, got stuff done. Hyde is a neighbor and is at large, he has been very helpful, so if your main council person won't help, look at an At-Large person to get help, they are very good sometimes!
